Division: Global News Technology Work Status: Full Time Location: Toronto, ON (On-site) About the Role: Corus Entertainment/Global News is seeking a full-time Broadcast IT Engineering Specialist based in Toronto, reporting to the Manager, News Technology. The successful candidate will bring strong technical expertise, a collaborative approach, and a commitment to delivering reliable support to internal clients while demonstrating Corus values. The successful candidate must be available to work a variety of shifts, including early mornings, days, evenings, weekends, and on-call rotations. Occasional travel may be required. The following outlines the primary responsibilities of the role and is not intended to be a comprehensive list of all duties assigned. You will contribute by: Install, troubleshoot, and maintain a variety of broadcast systems, facilities, and equipment. Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical systems at broadcast and transmitter facilities. Perform effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. Ensure assigned projects meet quality, schedule, and budget requirements. Implement and document temporary and permanent installations in support of operational and technical requirements. Participate in equipment purchasing or system design recommendations. Collaborate with third-party vendors and suppliers. Prepare and maintain broadcast system drawings using current software tools such as Visio. Use Microsoft 365 applications, including Excel, Word, and Copilot, to support operational and documentation requirements. Provide support for business, broadcast IT, and network systems. Support Television IT and IP-based broadcast infrastructure, including production, newsroom, playout, editing, storage, routing, and contribution systems. Maintain and troubleshoot Television network infrastructure, including switches, firewalls, VLANs, wireless links, and IP connectivity supporting broadcast and business systems. Partner with News Operations to support a consistent, high-quality on-air product. Work rotating weekday shifts and, as required, overnight and weekend shifts. Perform other related duties as assigned. Skills and experience you will bring: Post-secondary education in Broadcast Technology, Computer Technology, Engineering, Electronics, or a related field, or a minimum of five years of relevant industry experience. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot broadcast electronic systems. Understanding of digital video and audio signals and their integration within broadcast environments. Working knowledge of video compression, codecs, graphics systems, and video editing software. Working knowledge of computer networks and IP-based infrastructure. Experience supporting Television IT systems, IP video and audio transport, server-based broadcast workflows, shared storage, virtualization, and networked production environments. Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking, subnetting, VLANs, switching, routing, and cybersecurity practices applicable to Television and media operations. Working knowledge of computer hardware and software, including the ability to install and troubleshoot operating systems and applications. Mechanical aptitude and experience using hand and power tools are considered assets. Understanding of live Television production environments. Ability to interpret and maintain technical system flow documentation and drawings. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Visio and Excel, is required. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Strong attention to detail. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment. Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record. Demonstrated adaptability in working with evolving technologies, workflows, and integrated systems.
