About the role

The Faculty of Arts at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) invites applications for the position of Director of the Psychology Training Clinic (PTC). This is a full-time, year-round staff position within the Department of Psychology and reports directly to the Director of Clinical Training (DCT) and the Clinical Psychology Committee (CPC) in the Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) program. The UPEI PsyD program is accredited by the Canadian Psychology Association (CPA). The successful candidate must be a registered psychologist in PEI with a strong interest in clinical training and health service delivery.

The Psychology Training Clinic at UPEI is a key clinical training site for doctoral students in the PsyD program and provides psychological services to the university community and surrounding areas. It is a university-based clinic focused on training, research, and service, and supports clinical practicum experiences for PsyD students under the supervision of registered psychologists. The Clinic Director plays a critical leadership role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality clinical education and care, and the alignment of clinic operations with accreditation standards and ethical practice.

The Clinic Director is supported by administrative staff and collaborates closely with clinic supervisors, faculty, students, and the Clinical Program Committee. The position offers a unique opportunity to help shape the future of clinical psychology education and clinical service at UPEI.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Working in collaboration with the DCT and Clinical Program Committee (CPC), the Director of the Psychology Training Clinic is responsible for leadership and oversight of all clinical, administrative, and operational aspects of the clinic. Key responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing day-to-day clinic operations including intake, service delivery, scheduling, student and staff coordination, and record management
  • Ensuring compliance with ethical, professional, and accreditation standards (e.g., CPA, APPIC) in all clinical activities
  • Providing strategic planning and leadership to align the clinic’s mission with the goals of the PsyD program and university
  • Leading the PTC Advisory Committee to promote service quality, training excellence, and operational efficiency
  • Coordinating onboarding and offboarding for student clinicians and supervisors, and supporting pre-practicum orientation and training
  • Managing the clinic’s electronic health record system, ensuring regulatory compliance
  • Maintaining documentation and reporting on student clinical hours, services delivered, and client demographics for accreditation purposes related to the Clinic
  • Supporting faculty engagement in clinical supervision and research activities in collaboration with internal and external partners
  • Providing administrative oversight for clinic budgeting, materials procurement, and facilities management
  • Addressing client concerns, ensuring client satisfaction, and responding to clinical or administrative emergencies
  • Supervising administrative staff and working collaboratively with clinic personnel to ensure high-quality service delivery and training
  • Participating as a voting member of the Clinical Program Committee and contributing to policy and procedure development, including annual review of the Clinic Manual
  • Ensuring clinic operations meet risk management protocols and privacy legislation requirements
  • Supervising and/or facilitating backup direct psychological services and practicum training opportunities for PsyD students

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Registered Psychologist in PEI
  • Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology or related field (PsyD or PhD)
  • At least 5 years of clinical experience, including experience supervising doctoral-level clinical psychology trainees
  • Strong administrative, organizational, and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a training-focused environment

ASSETS:

  • Experience managing operations in a training clinic
  • Familiarity with CPA accreditation standards and clinical education best practices
  • Experience in university settings and university training clinic
  • Experience with electronic health record systems and clinic data management
