ABOUT US:
Since 2009, Gowest has expanded its land holdings in the North Timmins Gold Project (“NTGP”) area to cover a total of 109 square km in the Timmins gold camp, with much of the additional lands being located along the same geological structures – along the largely undeveloped Pipestone Fault, believed to be a splay off the prolific Porcupine-Destor Fault, which has produced the majority of the 145 million ounces of gold produced historically along the Abitibi-Greenstone belt – that host Gowest’s Bradshaw Gold Deposit (formerly Frankfield East) as well as a number of other gold showings.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Chief Geologist (or their delegate), the Production Geologist will provide effective grade control of the Bradshaw mine via; collection and interpretation of geological and analytical data, knowledge of narrow vein gold systems and respective mining practices, collaborative mindset and desire to contribute to a small progressive Geology Team; and, effective verbal and written communication with the Mining and Engineering Teams.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations for Mines and Mining Plants and all other applicable government standards and regulations.
- Work to achieve a good safety performance.
- Properly use and understand the Five Point Safety System.
- Practice safe work habits and support safety culture through participation in daily and monthly safety meetings.
- Perform all work safely and in accordance with site established standards and procedures.
- Perform effective grade control through mapping, sampling, and monitoring of underground and surface excavations (i.e.: face sampling, mapping and development headings with compliance to set standards).
- Provide daily direction to underground mining crews in order to optimize the grade and tonnage of mine excavations.
- Liaise with Geology, Engineering, and Mining Teams on matters of mine design and mine planning.
- Communicate effectively with Geology, Engineering, and Mining Teams to allow decisions to be made using the best available data.
- Perform grade control reporting in the form of daily grade control instructions.
- Produce quality geologic interpretations for use in stope design.
- Collaborate on and contribute to the geologic understanding of the Mine and surrounding deposits.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Degree in Geology; registered or with the ability to register with the Professional Geoscientists of Ontario (or equivalent).
- 1-3 years of Geology experience in narrow vein gold.
- Knowledge of narrow vein gold systems in Archean terranes.
- Knowledge with GeoticLog, Leapfrog, MapInfo, Autocad, or Deswick would be an asset.
- Exposure to drilling, core logging, and underground settings.
- Basic First Aid would be an asset.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite is an asset.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, listening and time management skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Must possess a valid Class G Ontario Driver's License.
- Must be willing to relocate to Timmins.

The role is located at the Frankfield Property, which is in the southwest part of Tully Township, approximately 32 km north-northeast of the City of Timmins, Ontario.

The ideal candidate for the role will work a rotation of 7 days on and 7 days off (12-hour days). Although you will be assigned a work schedule, this is not a guaranteed schedule of hours, and your work hours may vary with the needs of the company.

Gowest is a Canadian gold exploration and development company focused on the delineation and development of its 100% owned, Frankfield East gold deposit. Gowest is also exploring additional gold targets on the 60 square kilometre land package it controls and continuing to evaluate acquisition targets in the vicinity of the Pipestone Fault area, part of the prolific Timmins, Ontario Gold Camp. On June 1, 2011, Gowest announced a NI43-101 updated resource which totalled almost 1.2 million ounces at over 6 grams per tonne gold. This updated resource contained approximately 348,000 ounces of gold in the Indicated category (1,621,000 tonnes at a grade of 6.68 g/t Au) and 838,900 ounces of gold in the inferred category (4,342,000 tonnes at a grade of 6.01 g/t Au).
