The Emergency Planning & Security Specialist plays a central role in advancing the security and emergency response programs at Edmonton International Airport (YEG) and Villeneuve Airport (ZVL).
In this role, you will oversee and support security programs, contracts, and daily operational activities, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and industry best practices. You will provide subject-matter expertise, contribute to the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of emergency response and security programs, and act as a trusted advisor and operational representative. Working closely with internal teams and external agency partners, you will help ensure the airport is prepared to respond effectively to operational disruptions, security incidents, and emergency situations.

- Conduct and document security incident investigations, recommending policy, process, or operational improvements.
- Provide operational oversight of security-related contractors, systems, and services, ensuring effective daily operations and compliance with security programs.
- Monitor and review airport security infrastructure, identifying opportunities for improvements and enhancements.
- Manage access control credentials and keys, ensuring proper distribution, tracking, and auditing in accordance with policy.
- Assist in developing and maintaining security plans and operational procedures to ensure compliance and effective day-to-day security operations.
- Support the development, review, and continuous improvement of emergency response programs, ensuring operational readiness and compliance with applicable regulations.
- Plan, execute, and evaluate emergency exercises to test readiness and effectiveness.
- Develop, deliver or support security and emergency response training for airport staff.
- Apply change-management principles to ensure updates to procedures are communicated effectively.
- Gather feedback from internal and external stakeholders to support continuous improvement of programs and procedures.
- Maintain strong working relationships with regulatory bodies, law enforcement, and emergency responders to ensure coordinated and effective responses during security and emergency events.
- Collaborate with security contractors and internal departments to sustain operational readiness and consistent execution of security and emergency procedures.
- Support airlines, ground service teams, tenants, and contractors in meeting regulatory requirements and ensuring a coordinated approach to both routine operations and emergency response.
You have:
· Post-secondary education in Emergency Management, Security Management, Public Safety, Criminal Justice, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
· Minimum of 3–5 years of progressively responsible experience in security operations, emergency management, airport operations, or another public safety setting.
· Experience working in a regulated or compliance-driven environment is considered a strong asset.
· Incident Command System (ICS) training (ICS‑100 and ICS‑200 required; ICS‑300 and/or ICS‑400 considered a strong asset)
· Other relevant security or emergency management training; experience developing and delivering training courses and conducting emergency exercises considered an asset.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to exercise sound judgment and act professionally in high-pressure or crisis situations.
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the flexibility to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders and adapt to changing operational needs.
· Ability to work independently under minimal supervision, manage priorities, and perform in a fast-paced environment.
· Strong understanding of regulatory requirements for airport security and emergency response procedures, including federal and provincial legislation and international best practices.
· Ability to ensure security and emergency programs remain fully compliant with all relevant regulations and standards.
· Successful candidate must have the ability to obtain and maintain airport security clearance.
REPORTS TO: Manager, Emergency Planning & Security
BAND: 8 (Included in the General Bargaining Unit)
SALARY: $50.36 - $55.84 per hour (37.5 hours per week)
