About the role
Position Information:
The Ward clerk in the Emergency department, under the direction and supervision of the Director of ED, is responsible for registration of Emergency patients, clerical and receptionist duties, communicating referral appointments, organizing the nursing station, requisitioning supplies and assisting with stocking.
Essential Job Functions:

Completes Quick registration/armbanding for all ED arrivals

Registers Emergency patients in registration area or at bedside, ensuring correct demographic information is being collected.

Answers internal and external phone and verbal inquiries of a general nature by patients, visitors and other departments
-
Coordinates referrals and schedules appointments for patients and provides requisitions where necessary
-
Coordinates and provides routine services and supplies for the nursing station.
Qualifications:

Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent is required
-
Medical Terminology mandatory.

Competence with computer and keyboarding required
-
Registration experience required
-
Nonviolent Crisis Intervention required
-
Experience with CERNER, Powerchart, First Net preferred
-
Previous experience working in Emergency required
-
Excellent communication and public relations skills
-
Candidate must have excellent organizational skills and be flexible and adaptive to change

Switchboard experience an asset

Experience with working in fast paced multi-disciplinary setting

Participates in department and hospital committees
-
Satisfactory vulnerable person’s sector criminal background check.

Internal candidates must have satisfactory attendance and performance appraisal in current position.

Documented commitment to continuing education through inservice, staff meetings and self-motivated learning.
