About the role
OVERVIEW
The Supervisor reports to the Manager, and is responsible for ensuring patient care services are delivered with high quality, safety and consistency on a daily basis. This is achieved through continuous supervision and coaching of care team members to promote care that is patient centered, timely and efficient.
The Supervisor enables care team members to coordinate and integrate services and encourages ongoing performance improvement. The incumbent maximizes the use of available resources to facilitate efficient patient throughput and patient care excellence.
The Supervisor is the first point of contact and resource for staff, patients and families. This position supports and empowers staff by contributing to the identification of learning and developmental needs and participating in ongoing training and orientation of staff in the unit of responsibility.
The Supervisor develops communication strategies for the unit in collaboration with the Manager, and facilitates discussion between team members and other health care professionals to ensure consistent patient care across all shifts.
The incumbent contributes to corporate initiatives and efforts to enhance Michael Garron Hospital's mission, values and goals.
EDUCATION
-
Undergraduate degree in Administration or Clinical discipline.

Current certificate of registration issued by the discipline's licensing body in Ontario.
-
Canadian Nursing Association Certificate in Medical - Surgery.

BCLS required.
QUALIFICATIONS
-
5 years of recent medicine experience, required.
-
Demonstrated experience in incremental leadership responsibilities in the field of nursing/healthcare.
-
Demonstrated knowledge of patient/staff scheduling systems, payroll systems, workload management systems.
-
Demonstrated computer literacy with competence in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, and Internet Explorer.
-
Flexible, organized and self-directed within scope of responsibility; has initiative and independent judgment.
-
Knowledge of process improvement methodologies and quality monitoring required.
-
Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
-
Demonstrated ability to de-escalate situations as they arise.
-
Demonstrated effective coaching and mentoring skills.
-
Demonstrated ability to multi-task, problem-solve with proven critical and creative thinking skills.
-
Evidence of ongoing education (e.g. workshops, seminars, etc.) and up-grading of technical skills and knowledge.

Demonstrated ability to manage conflicting priorities and confidential information.
-
Demonstrates appropriate use of the Core Service Standards.

Demonstrated ability to manage confidential and sensitive issues with tact, diplomacy and with a focus on superior customer service.
