For over 40 years, Covenant House has been dedicated to its mission of serving youth on the street and to protect and safeguard all youth with absolute respect and unconditional love. Since 1982, Covenant House has supported more than 100,000 young people.

Overview In this position the candidate will be responsible for cleaning and sanitizing of the common areas, washrooms, offices and other areas within the organization.

We are currently recruiting for 1 Full-time Contract (3 Month), Custodian. This is a replacement position within the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • High touch cleaning and sanitizing of the following: Dispenser handles (i.e. paper towel, coffee/water machines, etc.), photocopy room equipment handles (i.e. drawers on photocopiers and printers)
  • Knowledge of COVID regulations (i.e. damp mop vs sweeping, personal protective equipment hygiene, etc.)
  • Washrooms – scrubbing showers, sinks, toilets and floors
  • Bedrooms – cleaning windowsills, mirrors, counter tops, blinds, walls, floors, baseboards, emptying garbage cans
  • Offices – emptying garbage cans, dusting & sanitizing desks, shelves, computers, phones, tables.
  • Common area – emptying garbage cans and recycling, dusting tables, shelves, windowsills, phones, ledges, cleans floors
  • Intake kitchen, lunch room, laundry rooms, storage areas, cleaning coffee machines and pots, sinks, counter tops, tables, microwaves, window sills, baseboards, emptying garbage cans, refilling paper towel and soap dispensers
  • Watering plants in all common areas, polishing woodwork, sweeping and mopping stairs, filling out work orders, reporting any repairs to be done, completing daily routine charts and attending team meetings.
  • Other additional duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • General knowledge of housekeeping techniques, chemicals, cleaning tools.
  • Applicants should have a Grade 12 education and/or ability to read, write and communicate clearly with others.
  • You must be able to maintain and follow routines, lift 25 lbs, climb flights of 10-20 stairs, and push a cart on wheels.
  • You should have working knowledge of WHMIS, computer knowledge, ability to use email and using internet explorer.
  • Weekday schedule Monday to Friday
