About the role

Position Overview

We are looking for a Junior QA Engineer to ensure the quality, reliability, accuracy, and performance of advanced reservoir simulation software. You will work closely with software developers and reservoir engineers to validate scientific applications through automated and manual testing, CI/CD integration, performance analysis, and continuous quality improvement.

Please note - this is an in office position located in Calgary

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, execute, and maintain automated and manual test suites for scientific applications Create functional, integration, regression, and performance tests Develop and maintain reusable test automation frameworks, utilities, and test data Review requirements and user stories to ensure test coverage and identify risks Prepare test plans, test cases, traceability documentation, and release reports Test applications across Windows, Linux, and HPC environments, including MPI/OpenMP workloads Perform performance, scalability, stress, and regression testing while identifying memory, concurrency, and numerical issues Monitor CI/CD pipelines, investigate build and test failures, and collaborate with developers on root-cause analysis Track defects and quality metrics using Azure DevOps and promote QA best practices throughout the SDLC

Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related field (or equivalent experience) Experience in software QA, test automation, or software development Strong understanding of software testing methodologies Experience designing automated test solutions and investigating software defects

Technical Skills

Experience testing scientific applications

Proficiency in Python for automation, scripting, and data validation Experience with pytest, CTest, or similar testing frameworks Experience testing REST APIs Working knowledge of Git, Azure DevOps CI/CD (YAML), Docker, CMake/Make, Windows, Linux, Bash, and PowerShell Experience with test reporting, code coverage, and quality analysis tools Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis skills

Professional Skills

Strong analytical skills and attention to detail

Excellent written and verbal communication Ability to work independently while collaborating within cross-functional teams Commitment to continuous learning and process improvement

Preferred Qualifications

Programming experience in C++, C#, or Fortran

Knowledge of reservoir simulation, numerical methods, subsurface engineering, or the energy industry Experience with MPI, OpenMP, HPC schedulers (Slurm/PBS/LSF), and numerical validation Familiarity with debugging and diagnostic tools (e.g., Valgrind, AddressSanitizer, ThreadSanitizer, GDB, Visual Studio Debugger) Experience with QA dashboards, Power BI, or AI-assisted testing and quality automation
