Position: Clean Energy Technical Expert (Scientist/ Engineer)

Reports to: Manager, Environmental Services, Clean Energy, & Community Engagement

Hours per week: 37.5

About the Role

Kinectrics is a global leader in engineering, testing, and consulting for the electricity industry, delivering trusted solutions for over a century. We’re expanding our clean energy portfolio and seeking a dynamic, innovative Clean Energy Technical Expert to help us define the next frontier of energy innovation.

This role uniquely blends deep technical execution with strategic business development. You’ll be a technical trailblazer, contributing to hydrogen, hybrid systems, and next-generation energy integration, while also driving client engagement and proposal development that bring new ideas to market.

Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact

  • Lead the Energy Transition

  • Spearhead technical workstreams on transformative clean energy projects—hydrogen, hybrid systems, nuclear integration, and more.

  • Serve as subject matter expert (SME), ensuring rigorous, cutting-edge analysis and project delivery.

  • Develop and Grow Business

  • Proactively identify opportunities in Canadian and international clean energy markets.

  • Create winning proposals, shape scopes of work, and build lasting client relationships.

  • Support strategic partnerships that drive our clean energy vision forward.

  • The associated portfolio revenue is expected to be >$3M with a CAGR of 15-20%.

  • Drive Innovation

  • Contribute to the development of innovative energy system architectures, including Transportable Nuclear Power Plants and hybrid generation systems tailored for industrial or remote applications.

  • Influence the direction of industry through involvement in key associations, events, and thought leadership.

  • Collaborate Across Teams

  • Work across functions—licensing, environment, safety, systems—to integrate multidisciplinary insights into cohesive, client-ready solutions.

  • Lead and mentor technical teams and junior staff.

  • Other duties as assigned.

This position will support key customer portfolios including:

  • Utilities deploying mixed clean energy systems on complex sites. This includes the integration of nuclear reactors and fusion facilities with other industrial uses, co-generation, hydrogen, ammonia, and petrochemical production facilities.

  • Remote mining operations requiring unique deployment and integration considerations.

  • Emerging mobile and modular clean energy technologies for transportable deployment: design, safety analysis, and systems integration for these technologies.

What You Need to Succeed

  • Education: Master’s degree or higher in engineering or science.

  • Experience: 10–15 years in clean energy, hydrogen, or related fields. Nuclear industry or regulated sector experience is a strong asset.

  • Technical Breadth: Expertise in hydrogen technologies, hybrid systems, and environmental or impact assessments.

  • Business Acumen: Proven ability to support or lead business development activities, prepare proposals, and engage clients strategically.

  • Regulatory Fluency: Familiarity with Canadian nuclear/environmental regulations considered an asset.

  • Adaptability: ability to pivot between work assignments in a variety of areas to support the business needs.
