About the Role:
Global News Toronto is seeking a part-time Control Room Technician. Reporting to the Manager of Broadcast Operations, the Control Room Technician plays a critical role in the successful execution of live and recorded broadcasts. You will support the technical operation of our control room systems, ensuring a seamless on-air experience through your attention to detail, technical expertise, and commitment to quality.
You will contribute by:
- Operating MOSART, our automated control room system.
- Managing Maestro and ORAD virtual set control systems.
- Handling Telemetric robotic cameras in both virtual and real environments.
- Performing technical initialization and facility checks on robotic cameras, audio consoles, studio lighting, teleprompters, closed captioning systems, and other control rooms and studio equipment.
- Conducting quality control checks on all content played from server-based systems.
- Coordinating remote live event feeds and ensures signal integrity.
- Working a variety of shifts, including early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays, as required.
- Performing additional duties as assigned by the Manager of Broadcast Operations.
Skills and experience you bring:
- A degree or diploma in Broadcast Technology or a related discipline from a recognized post-secondary institution.
- Minimum of 1 year experience in a network-level control room or a related technical broadcast role.
- Strong working knowledge of newsroom and broadcast systems, such as MOSART, ENPS, Open Media, Grass Valley, XPression, and ORAD.
- Proven technical expertise with switchers, audio and lighting consoles, robotic camera systems, and graphics platforms.
- A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with a passion for improving production workflows and outcomes.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment.
- The ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tight deadlines in a fast-paced, high-tech environment.
- A high degree of adaptability and multitasking ability, especially in response to evolving technology and production demands.
- A positive, flexible attitude and a strong sense of initiative, you make things happen.
