Position Description

Position Summary As a member of the Capacity Building Team, this position would conduct psycho diagnostic assessments to diagnose substance use disorders (SUDs) and concurrent psychiatric conditions provide evidence-based psychological interventions for addictions and concurrent disorders to individuals and groups. In partnership with the Peter Boris Centre for Addictions Research this position would also focus on the development of novel care paths, substance misuse and common SUD comorbidities. 40% of this role would focus on Research/Education/Program Evaluation/Quality Improvement Activities.

The psychologist plans, conducts and supervises psychological services including evidence-based assessment, treatment, and consultation, in line with the mission and values of St. Joseph's Healthcare. The psychologist plans, coordinates and provides related research and program evaluation activities. Specific roles and tasks will be shaped by program needs and client population. The psychologist takes a leadership role in education, clinical training and other academic activities within the program. The psychologist practices within the scope of declared competencies registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario. Given that St. Joseph's Healthcare is affiliated with McMaster University, the psychologist is expected to engage in appropriate teaching and research activities and hold a faculty appointment within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences. .

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from an APA or CPA accredited graduate program (or equivalent)
  • Registered or eligible for registration, through the College of Psychologists of Ontario with identified competency relevant to Concurrent Disorders Program
  • Evidence of ongoing advanced addictions education from an accredited educational institution.
  • Completion of a certificate program in addictions/Concurrent Disorders from an accredited educational institution preferred
  • Five-year post-doctoral clinical experience in concurrent disorders/SUD preferred.
  • Teaching and supervisory experiences at the undergraduate and graduate level.
  • An established track record of academic productivity (e.g., peer-reviewed funding, peer reviewed publications, presentations at professional meetings)
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge of individual counseling and group facilitation skills specifically related to Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) in an outpatient setting preferred
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of individual counseling and group facilitation skills specifically related Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) in an outpatient sitting preferred
  • Three years’ experience in a teaching role specific to concurrent disorders/SUD preferred
  • Five years’ experience in program development preferred
  • Demonstrated theoretical and empirical knowledge bases and advanced level of clinical competence in working with patient with concurrent disorders/alcohol and substance use disorders
  • Demonstrated compliance with the ethical and professional practice standards of the profession.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team, to collaborate with community resources and services, and to advocate for the needs of clients.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in clinical research design and analysis
  • Skills and experience in clinical teaching, education and research consistent with the requirements of faculty appointment to the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences, McMaster University.
  • Continuing academic productivity consistent with the requirements for future appointment to the rank of Associate Professor or Professor
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and supervisor skills required for the supervision of students, interns, residents, psychometrists, staff from other healthcare disciplines, and psychologists and/or psychological associates registered for supervised practice by the College of Psychologists of Ontario
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills required for assessment reports, scholarly presentations and scholarly publications.
  • Current BCLS/HCP certification preferred

Concurrent Disorders-specific Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5-year year post-doctoral clinical experience in Concurrent Disorders
  • Minimum of 5 years of recent related clinical experience in providing direct clinical care specific to Concurrent Disorders
  • Demonstrated knowledge of individual counseling and group skills (ie. DBT, MI, CBT, Behavioral Activation)
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a teaching role specific to Concurrent Disorders preferred
  • Minimum of 5 year of experience in program development preferred
  • Demonstrated theoretical and empirical knowledge bases and advanced level of clinical competence in working with patients with Concurrent Disorders
