About the Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time Mechanical Engineer or Technologist to join our team in Medicine Hat, AB.
In this position, you will play a key role in delivering project management and technical support across Amtech’s military engineering, aeronautical, automation/BMS controls, and CBR product development projects. This is a dynamic role involving both hands-on technical work and collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams.
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Responsible for the design, prototyping, and testing of custom mechanical systems and equipment, with a focus on generating precise technical drawings and assembling prototype components for functional evaluation
- Acting as the project mechanical lead or contributing as part of a multi-disciplinary team, coordinating the mechanical aspects of projects, liaising with clients, and overseeing project budgets and schedules
- Preparing engineering reports, drawings, test plans, and technical documentation
- Developing finite element models and supporting solids modelling capability
- Providing technical support for aeronautical, military, automation, and CBR projects
- Assisting or leading the creation of drawing standards
- Conducting data analysis, reduction, and reporting
- Supporting CBR technologies including product development, testing, and manufacturing improvements
- Participating in field and laboratory testing at DRDC Suffield Research Centre and other sites
- Engaging in business development and representing Amtech with clients and stakeholders
- Assisting with ISO certification processes and continuous improvement initiatives
About You
To qualify, you will need to be a graduate of a mechanical, aeromechanical, structural, or aerospace engineering program, or an accredited engineering technology/AME program, with eligibility for registration with ASET, APEGA, or another equivalent provincial body. A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in mechanical, aeronautical, or structural engineering is preferred. New graduates are welcome to apply.
Due to the security requirements of this role, you must be a Canadian citizen and eligible to obtain and hold a valid Canadian passport.
Note: In order to access confidential documents and restricted airport areas, you may be required to provide information as necessary to obtain and maintain Transport Canada and other Government of Canada security clearances. You may be required to sign miscellaneous security agreements including but not restricted to office key agreements, data and intellectual property non-disclosure agreements, and corporate credit card agreements.
Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:
- Experience preparing mechanical systems drawings and technical documentation
- Proficiency with 3D CADD packages such as Autodesk Inventor or similar, as well as Product Data Management software such as Autodesk Vault
- Familiarity with aeronautical or military specifications, hardware, and equipment
- Knowledge of CFD, finite element analysis, or related simulation tools
- Experience preparing test plans, technical reports, and performing data analysis
