Reporting to the Manager, Financial Operations, the Senior Financial Analyst is a business partner responsible for monitoring the financial and non-financial performance of the Regina Exhibition Association Limited. This includes responsibility and accountability for providing reliable and timely information and analysis to the business leaders to support them in their decision-making process. This position supports business partners in the budget development, forecasting and variance reporting process; and to identify risks and opportunities throughout the organization.

WHAT WILL YOU DO

Financial Analysis & Reporting:

  • Lead the preparation, review, and presentation of journal entries, financial statements, reconciliations, and variance analyses with a focus on accuracy, timeliness, and strategic insight.
  • Establish and refine financial benchmarks, standards, and best practices to strengthen organizational performance.
  • Prepare and present executive-level financial reports and dashboards, analyzing revenue, expenses, and profitability to drive decision-making.
  • Oversee reporting and settlements with business partners, customers, tenants, vendors, and external stakeholders, ensuring compliance and transparency.
  • Monitor capital and operating project costs, providing progress reports and recommendations to optimize investment decisions.
  • Lead the preparation and distribution of quarterly and annual financial statements for city, banking, and other external requirements.
  • Develop and maintain performance dashboards, KPIs, and scorecards for senior leadership to communicate results and operational insights.
  • Identify operational and financial trends, highlighting risks and opportunities, and advising leadership on strategies to improve performance and efficiency.

Budgeting and Forecasting

  • Lead the development, coordination, and consolidation of annual budgets and multi-year financial plans, ensuring alignment with corporate strategy.
  • Partner with business unit leaders to provide strategic financial guidance, monitor performance, and identify opportunities to improve profitability.
  • Direct the forecasting process, incorporating economic trends, industry benchmarks, and scenario modeling.
  • Present in-depth variance analysis and financial performance findings to executive leadership, enabling data-driven decisions.
  • Oversee the development and refinement of complex financial models to support forecasting, budgeting, capital planning, and long-term growth initiatives

Data Management & Analysis

  • Oversee the design and implementation of advanced analytics tools, ensuring data accuracy, accessibility, and integrity across the organization.
  • Deliver actionable insights by interpreting financial and operational data trends, supporting executive decision-making.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to enhance data collection, reporting methods, and predictive analytics capabilities.
  • Champion the adoption of business intelligence tools and automated reporting solutions to improve efficiency and accuracy of financial analysis.

Compliance and Risk Management

  • Ensure adherence to internal controls, compliance standards, and financial policies, proactively identifying risks and recommending corrective measures.
  • Review and approve monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements with a focus on accuracy, transparency, and compliance.
  • Drive cost optimization initiatives by continuously evaluating expenses and resource allocations.
  • Lead preparation, planning, and coordination of internal and external audits, ensuring readiness and compliance.
  • Assess financial systems, processes, and controls, implementing improvements to enhance efficiency, scalability, and risk management.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor financial policies, procedures, and governance frameworks to align with organizational best practices

Leadership & Strategic Support

  • Act as a key advisor to senior leadership on financial performance, risks, and opportunities.
  • Mentor, train, and provide guidance to the junior analyst, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
  • Collaborate with executives and business unit leaders to evaluate strategic initiatives, investments, and partnerships.
  • Represent the finance function in cross-departmental committees and strategic projects.

Performs other duties defined and assigned by the Manager, Financial Operations as required.

Permanent Full Time position.

Weekly Schedule: Monday - Friday: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

Wage Range: $80,000 - $110,000

Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance.

  • A Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or working towards an accounting designation is an asset.

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

  • Experience (1-2 years) in full cycle accounting and/or related financial management.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and Public Sector Non-Profit Accounting standards.

  • Knowledge of municipal accounting, budgeting and reporting is an asset.

  • Ability to create and present reports to senior management.

  • Ability to work under pressure

  • Knowledge of trends and developments in the fields of events, entertainment, hospitality and sport and recreational business, finance, and economic theories is an asset.

  • Proven proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel skills (VBA macro, SQL queries, Power Query experience is an asset)

  • Strong interpersonal skills with client management and customer relations experience.

  • Good organizational, planning, and multi-tasking skills.

  • Superior analytical skills and problem–solving skills for budget development along with strong financial acumen.

  • Excellent attention to detail and high standards in quality and accurate reporting.

  • Effective and concise written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficiency in managing multiple, complex priorities within demanding timeframes.

Working Environment and Physical Demands

  • Regular office environment

  • As an Out-of-Scope role, hours may vary based on operational requirements and may be required to work hours beyond regularly scheduled to overcome unexpected workloads and to meet extraordinary situations. Such overtime shall be authorized by the manager.

  • Providing cross-training and coverage within the Financial Operations team, including covering event/concert settlements as needed.
