About the role

Kw’umut Lelum’s Sni’nuw program provides a continuum of culturally sensitive, child-centred early childhood development services to children 0 – 6 and their parents. The services are intended to increase parental knowledge of early childhood development, increase parental capacity, link families to other community services and to enhance opportunities to develop social, educational and emotional potential of parents and families.

Kw’umut Lelum (KL), rooted in Snuw’uy’ulh, is directly mandated by our Member Nations to strengthen cultural identities and family unity, and to make sure our children are safe from neglect and abuse and thrive in a safe and healthy environment.

As a Delegated Aboriginal Agency, KL has authority to provide the full range of services mandated by the Child, Family and Community Service Act to all of its Member Nations on reserve, and to all families and children who are registered to or self-identify as having a cultural connection to any of our Member Nations who are currently living off reserve in the regional districts of Duncan or Nanaimo. These services uphold legislative requirements, but are applied with an Indigenous approach. KL also leads many innovative and culturally significant programming and services with continued connection with community elders and wisdom keepers.

Our nine Member Nations are located in central Vancouver Island and include: Halalt, Malahat, Lyackson, Penelakut, Qualicum, Snaw-Naw-As, Snuneymuxw, Stz’uminus and Ts’uubaa-asatx.
