The Position:
The Director of Instruction for Student Learningprovides District-wide leadership to strengthen teaching and learning from early years through graduation. Reporting to the Superintendent of Schools and serving as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Director leads the implementation of curriculum and instructional practices, with the focus on literacy/numeracy initiatives that support student success, engagement, and transitions. The position will involve working with MyEd data to support staff and other departments. The Director will supervise and work closely with the District L1 staff member.
Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of professional staff in Literacy, Numeracy, Early Learning/Child Care, Career Education and mentorship
- Provide leadership for the implementation of the BC Curriculum and instructional practices across K–12
- Support staff in assessment, reporting, and evidence-informed teaching practices
- Facilitate district and school growth planning to promote ongoing improvement in accordance with the Board's Strategic Plan and the Ministry's Framework for Enhancing Student Learning
- Provide leadership and guidance for schools as designated by the Superintendent
- Coordinate District literacy and numeracy improvement strategies, including using MyEd student data
- Supporting and supervising the district's MyEd operations and staff
- Use data to monitor student achievement and guide instructional support
- Support consistent, effective literacy and numeracy practices across all schools
- Provide support for Career Education, Work Experience, and career development programming
- Assist schools with student transitions to graduation, post-secondary education, training, and employment
- Build partnerships with post-secondary institutions, employers, and community agencies
- Provide leadership for District Early Learning and Child Care programs
- Support alignment between early learning, elementary programs, and District priorities
- Design and support professional learning related to curriculum, literacy, numeracy, career education, and early learning
- Prepare reports and presentations as required for the Superintendent and Board of Education
- Provides leadership for District-wide student learning initiatives, with a focus on Early Learning & Child Care, Curriculum, Career Education, student reporting, and assessments
- Oversee the planning, development, and coordination of initiatives related to supporting staff and student learning initiatives in alignment with Ministry and Board Strategic Planning
Required Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
- Certification through the BC Teacher Regulation Branch
- Master's degree in Curriculum/ Educational Leadership or equivalent with relevant school and/or District-level leadership experience
- Demonstrated leadership experience of five or more years within the public K-12 sector, including school administrator experience
- Expertise in Literacy, Numeracy and student assessments to guide staff and student learning
- Proven ability to lead and supervise other staff to support students and families
- Strong knowledge of theBC Learning Frameworkand its application in educational planning
- Proven in depth knowledge and experience working with MyEd to support learning and district operations
- Demonstrated experience working in collaboration with Indigenous Nations and partner organizations
- Proven experience in managing large-scale budgets and fulfilling associated reporting requirements
- Demonstrated success in collaborating with community agencies and institutions to enhance student and staff learning
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to navigate and resolve complex conflicts effectively
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong skills in data analysis and application to program planning and student support
- Superior organizational, planning, and time management skills
- Effective managerial and supervisory abilities, with a focus on accountability and team development
- High standards of professional ethics, adaptability, and responsibility
- Flexibility to adapt to other duties as required

Compensation:
The salary range for this position is determined by the BC Public Service Employer Association (BCPSEA). Placement on the salary range is dependent on qualifications and experience.
- Current salary range - $167,847 – $184,448*

- Excellent benefits based on the provincial exempt package -Salary grid improvements may be approved by BCPSEA for the 2026-27 school year.
