About the role

At ATB, we exist to make it possible for our clients, team members and communities. Our purpose is more than aspirational. It's a real commitment we live every day through our values (what we call the ATB ID).

About Life at ATB is about more than work. In fact, we’re consistently recognized as one of Canada's top employers thanks to our high-care, high-performance culture, upheld by the three commitments we make to our team members:

Impact in action: No matter where you are in the organization, you're empowered to make an impact in the lives of our clients and communities.

Thrive together: We want you—the unique, authentic you—to feel safe and celebrated at work. We're on a continuous journey to build the most flexible and inclusive programs.

Ready for tomorrow: We want to enable your success through interesting and challenging work, performance enablement, and learning and development.

About The Role This position has a hybrid work arrangement. On average, this means 2-4 days on-site per quarter. Please note that this is subject to change due to business priorities.

As ATB’s next FinOps Lead, you will be a highly visible and influential individual contributor role navigating the critical relationship between cloud providers and cloud consumers (Engineering). You won't just report numbers; you will help manage the performance and delivery of cloud services to ensure our technology teams keep pace and stay ahead of demand.

Your mission is to provide governance and oversight to operational capacity, managing risk while empowering engineers to innovate. You will move us beyond simple "cost reporting" to true Unit Economics and Value-Based decision-making.

Accountabilities

Data Analysis & Reporting (The Technical Core)

  • Go Deep on Data: You won't rely on pre-canned reports. You will create complex SQL queries to transform raw cost/usage data into actionable insights.
  • Dashboarding: Develop and maintain dashboards (Tableau, Looker, DataStudio) for consumption at various levels of the organization—from Executive Summaries to Engineer-level views.
  • Implement data model to provide better granularity and visibility into cloud financial forecasting

Forecasting & Migration Strategy

  • Predict with Confidence: Create and oversee the process for migration forecasts and ongoing consumption models. You will monitor variances between budget and actuals, pushing for mitigating actions when they drift.
  • Agile Budgeting: Leverage cloud agile processes to assess and rebalance spend on a weekly/monthly basis, minimizing the variance between what we planned and what we spent.

Process & Governance

  • Define the Standard: Develop and implement policies and workflows to manage risk in our cloud infrastructure.
  • Automation: Work with the DevOps/SRE team to define requirements for automating key Cloud Asset and financial metrics. (Scripting skills in Python/Shell are a huge asset here).

Communication & Influence

  • Bridge the Gap: Establish a regular communication cadence across the organization to discuss strategic objectives, best practices, and KPIs.
  • Optimization: Work directly with business units to evaluate optimization opportunities—whether that is a process improvement or a technology architecture change.

Skills, Experience & Requirements

  • Experience: 3+ years in a FinOps or Data Analyst role.
  • The "Bi-Lingual" Skill Set: You have the ability to translate between Finance (Budgets, Forecasts) and Engineering (Services, Architecture).

Technical Chops

  • Strong experience with SQL for querying complex datasets is required.
  • Experience creating dashboards (Tableau, Looker, DataStudio, etc.).
  • Automation tooling (Shell scripting, Cloud SDK, Python) is a strong asset.

Problem Solving: You are a proactive thinker who can recognize patterns in processes, discover conflicts, and influence others to adopt new workflows.

Certifications : Certifications from cloud providers (AWS/Azure) and/or FinOps (FOCP) are an asset.

Skills, Experience & Requirements

  • You have more than 3 years in FinOps or a Data Analyst role
  • You have some experience with structured Query Language (SQL) for querying complex datasets
  • You have experience creating dashboards (Tableau, Looker, DataStudio etc)
  • Automation tooling (Shell scripting, Cloud SDK, Python) would be considered an asset
  • You have good communication skills (both oral and written)
  • You must be a proactive thinker
  • You have demonstrated capacity for problem solving, synthesis and making clear recommendations with supporting arguments
  • You are adept at recognizing patterns in current processes, discovering common approaches, conflicts and gaps where practicable
  • You have a proven track record relating to process development and implementation, including the ability to influence others to follow and/or adopt those processes
  • Certifications from cloud providers and / or FinOps would be an asset.

Don’t meet all the requirements on the list? A resume only goes so far in expressing who you are and the unique perspectives you bring. If you believe your skills and experience align with the role—but you might not check all the boxes—we want to hear from you. We encourage candidates from all work backgrounds, equity-seeking communities and experience levels to apply. If you’re seeking a career where your drive, perspective and growth are celebrated, we want to hear from you.

We’re dedicated to building a workforce reflective of those within our communities, and a culture where our team members are equipped with what they need to succeed—their way. Part of creating an inclusive workplace is recognizing our role in advancing Truth and Reconciliation. We are committed to meeting and exceeding the standards set out in the Partnership Accreditation in Indigenous Relations program created by the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business.
