Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Centre for Healthy Communities, the Research Associate contributes to research projects, ensuring that all tasks are completed on schedule, and on budget while communicating with administrators and researchers to understand challenges and potential solutions. The incumbent works directly with the program teams, administrators, staff of the College, and students and will partner with community not-for-profits and government agencies to strengthen their impact on poverty, health and wellbeing, quality education and inequities, in alignment with Loyalist College’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The incumbent will support the development of project plans and budgets, implement projects, support applications for funding, and create knowledge application materials.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the development of the Statement of Work and project plans for individual projects, providing input on project deliverables, milestones, research methods, variables and other test parameters and data collection.

  • Executes agreed-upon projects including method development, securing Research Ethics Board (REB) approval where required, and all activities within the scope of the various applied projects and research.

  • Gathers and analyzes research data and prepares research project reports and presentations.

  • Communicates with students and faculty researchers as well as community partners to better understand challenges and potential solutions.

  • Develops and reviews standard operating procedures (SOPs) and literature reviews.

  • Maintains detailed and organized records of project status.

  • Mentors and trains students to establish a high standard for scientific credibility and rigor in applied projects and research initiatives and approach to solutions.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree in health, human or justice studies fields with a research component.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of professional experience applying research knowledge in an academic and/or social service setting and influencing program and/or process system development.
  • Experience with Research Data Management practices, process documentation and reporting software would be an asset.
  • Experience with mixed-methods research including quantitative and qualitive data collection and analysis.
  • Ability to manage time and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently.
  • Demonstrated skills in working with a team of applied researchers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to be able to communicate complex research principles and new knowledge, dealing with both internal and external stakeholders.
