About the role

Are you ready to lead and innovate in the Cloud? We’re looking for a Cloud Database Administration (DBA) Team Lead to drive our database operations forward. As the leader of our DBA team, you’ll be responsible for managing our AWS RDS infrastructure that serves as the backbone of Nasdaq Verafin’s applications. This role requires a leader with a strong vision who can balance ensuring day-to-day operations are running smoothly with strategic planning, team development, and cross-functional collaboration to enhance database performance, security, and scalability to help support our mission to prevent financial crime.

You’ll lead a high-impact team that works on a mix of both operational tasks and R&D projects that thrives on solving complex challenges and driving innovation. You'll be responsible for the performance, reliability, and scalability of our cloud-based database infrastructure. You will also work with DevOps teams and other cross-functional areas to coordinate the design and maintenance of secure, high-availability environments that support mission-critical applications. In addition, you’ll continually look for opportunities to implement new technologies including the adoption of AI products and services to drive our cloud database operations forward.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead the administration of database servers within AWS cloud-based environments

  • Coordinate the implementation of systems, software, and services

  • Ensure Nasdaq Verafin and industry standards are consistently followed for all upgrades, tracking problems, and managing resolutions

  • Provide recommendations and performing testing, change control, installation, integration, diagnostic analysis, and service restoration of the environment

  • Drive the continued documentation of all standard operating procedures

  • Ensure operational excellence by managing daily backup operations, optimizing database performance, implementing robust security controls and policies, administering user access, maintaining system configurations and patches, proactively mitigating risks, executing change control procedures

  • Collaborate with product engineering to support, maintain, and design storage infrastructure for Nasdaq Verafin products

  • Oversee infrastructure-related projects

  • Drive innovation by evaluating and implementing cutting-edge database technologies and AI solutions that enhance performance, reliability, and operational efficiency across our database infrastructure

What We're Looking For:

  • A university degree or completion of a technical college program in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of relevant experience in database administration or a similar technical role

  • Well-versed in relational database management systems

  • Experienced with PostgreSQL/MySQL and AWS RDS

  • Proficient with DevOps tools (Terraform, Jenkins, GitHub, Docker for CI/CD on AWS), operational monitoring, and alerting systems

  • Strong experience with Linux in cloud-based environments

  • Skilled in automation across various platforms

  • Ability to adapt quickly to meet business needs

This position can be located in St. John’s or Toronto, and offers the opportunity for a hybrid work environment (at least 3 days a week in office, subject to change), providing flexibility and accessibility for qualified candidates.
