About The Role
We are seeking a dedicated, creative, and passionate Staff Frontend Software Engineer to join our eBay Seller Experience team in Toronto. In this role, you will be instrumental in architecting, designing, and developing innovative, high-performance, and highly available web applications. Your primary focus will be on creating cross-browser web UI applications with rich interactions, as well as developing server-side Node.js applications to integrate with various web services and applications across multiple device form factors. This position offers a unique opportunity to impact the core of eBay’s selling experience, serving over 25 million sellers across 22 nations who generate billions of dollars in revenue quarterly. You will collaborate closely with engineers, UX designers, and product managers in an agile environment to deliver engaging and seamless experiences for our global seller community.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field 10+ years of experience in architecting, designing, and developing high-volume, interactive web applications Expertise in HTML5, CSS3 (with preprocessors like LESS or SASS), and JavaScript/TypeScript Proficiency in web UX component development, including web assembly and responsive design Strong experience with server-side Node.js development and integration with web services Knowledge of automation testing tools such as Playwright, Percy, or similar frameworks Experience with CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins and Git Familiarity with CDN, web performance optimization, and cross-browser/cross-platform UX design Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and computer science fundamentals Experience with security, load testing, accessibility, and site speed optimization
Responsibilities
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineers, UX designers, and product managers to design, develop, test, and support high-quality front-end applications Create and maintain web applications using JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, CSS, and Node.js, ensuring responsiveness and cross-browser compatibility Design and implement rich, interaction-heavy web UI components and libraries to enhance team development efficiency Optimize web applications for performance, security, and scalability across various devices and browsers Develop and improve browser local IndexedDB and web workers to enhance application responsiveness Implement automated testing strategies to ensure code quality and functionality, including unit, component, and UI visual tests Build and manage CI/CD pipelines, integrating with backend APIs and focusing on performance tuning for both browser and server environments Maintain documentation for code, processes, and best practices, fostering a culture of continuous improvement Stay updated with emerging web technologies and incorporate innovative solutions into ongoing projects
