About the role

Hours: Hours: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week. Afternoon shifts of 3:00pm-11:00pm. Some flexibility in hours may be required.

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Assessing the eligibility of families seeking emergency shelter space
  • Making referrals to appropriate programs when eligibility criteria are not met
  • Helping families navigate various community agencies, resources and government services
  • Providing education, information and other community resources as needed
  • Working collaboratively with the Family Centre Team to ensure residential tasks such as house laundry, cleaning common spaces, unit turnovers, unit inventory, unit inspections, and other tasks required for the safe and efficient operation of the program
  • Observe all Good Shepherd health and safety rules and work in compliance with the provisions of the occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations to minimize risk to clients, staff and others as well as to the property of the Good Shepherd

The Assessment Focused Family Support Worker is a crucial link between families, community agencies, and other professionals, initiating or contributing to service planning discussions and advocating for families based on their expressed preferences and requirements, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are met effectively.

What You'll Bring to Our Team

  • Post-secondary education in Social Services or a related field is required
  • Experience working in a residential setting is preferred
  • Minimum 1-year related experience in community outreach or emergency shelter, and/or equivalent combination of education, training and experience in Social Services or a related field
  • Have knowledge of and have experience working with a range of issues impacting families including homelessness, violence against women and children, immigration, poverty, mental illness and substance use
  • Skill in effective crisis management and the ability to communicate effectively and establish relationships with clients and coworkers
  • Commitment to and experience working within a person-centered, trauma-informed, harm reduction and housing first framework
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills, verbal and written communication, time management and organization, and ability to prioritize workload
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team
  • Experience with HIFIS & EMHware is an asset
  • CPR certification or willingness to be certified is required
  • A valid G license is preferred
  • Fluency in a 2nd language is an asset
