Job Description P ROGRAM MANAGER, FLEET RENEWAL INFRASTRUCTURE Victoria The Opportunit y In order to address the challenges brought on by constrained system capacity, aging major assets, and environmental sustainability, BC Ferries is launching a new Fleet Renewal program that will see a large number of new major and minor vessels introduced to the fleet in the near term as well as significant builds and upgrades to shore-based infrastructure and facilities. BC Ferries also intends to undertake an ambitious program of system electrification, enabling large parts of our ferry system to operate on a cleaner and more sustainable energy source. These projects together form the largest capital investment in the company’s history .

The Project Manager, Fleet Renewal Infrastructure will lead the planning and delivery of a wide variety of civil, building, technology and marine infrastructure projects. Initially, the Project Manager will lead onshore simulator facilities. As the program progresses the Project Manager will deliver multiple minor berth upgrades and terminal planning for the New Major Vessels.

This role is responsible for managing challenging and complex projects, working with diverse stakeholder groups and regulatory agencies, and delivering results in operationally complex work environments . From project initiation to close-out, the project manager completes a comprehensive range of tasks and activities including planning, design development, budget and schedule management, construction management, corporate reporting, and commissioning and handover responsibilities . The project manager also provides professional support to departmental and organizational leadership and provides coaching and mentoring to new or junior staff including project coordinators.

The Role Role Reporting directly to the Program Manager, Fleet Renewal Infrastructure , this role is integral to the achievement of company objectives and contributes value through key areas of oversight such as:

  • Managing multiple civil, building, or marine infrastructure projects from initiation and design development to construction and commissioning
  • Initiating feasibility studies and preliminary field investigations, developing and managing project scope, schedule, budget, and resources
  • Facilitating and completing thorough design reviews, value engineering, and other workshops with required stakeholders to ensure project objectives are achieved in a cost-effective way
  • Leading development, writing, and presentation of project business cases, steering committee updates, various status reports, and other project governance documentation
  • Ensuring a high degree of professionalism throughout all activities, consistent with corporate standards and processes
  • Monitoring expenditures, controls spending, and produces forecasts
  • Providing technical assistance across the organization
  • Facilitating capital planning with various internal departments and stakeholders
  • Leading and coaching project coordinators
  • Supporting other departments in the planning, communication, and implementation of alternate ferry service plans when service if interrupted during construction
  • Providing contract administration, site supervision, document control, and other related functions

What You Bring To The Team

  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in Engineering , Construction Management, Architecture, or closely related discipline
  • Professional Engineer (P. Eng) or Engineer in Training (EIT) - Required
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) - Preferred
  • 7-9 years of project management experience
  • 7-9 years experience with managing construction projects including site planning and development, managing multi-disciplinary engineering consultant teams, cost estimating, forecasting, and reporting
  • 7-9 years of engineering, design, or construction industry related experience

Additional Information The target salary range: $105,200 - $131,500 per annum . The starting salary is determined based on the successful candidate’s knowledge and experience, and on internal equity . Starting salary may exceed the target range on an exceptional basis.
