About the role

JOB SUMMARY:

The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) is a professional caregiver who is responsible and accountable for providing quality patient care within a delivery model in accordance with WWRCP philosophy, policies and standards of care of Grand River Hospital, the College of Nurses (CNO) and all relevant legislation.

The RPN coordinates and supports all aspects of the oncology program, including patient/family assessment, teaching, and providing supportive and palliative care. As a member of the interdisciplinary team, the RPN oncology nurse will support the development and implementation of patient treatment plans and quality improvement processes. Collaborates closely with physicians and other disciplines. Contributes to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Current Certificate of Competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario

· Two years Oncology experience mandatory

· Completion of Oncology Foundations Course from the deSouza Institute preferred but enrollment acceptable

· CPR certification required

· Ability to function effectively and autonomously in a clinical area with high turnover

· IV certification and expertise required

· Experience with administration and management of blood products, subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, CVAD care and management

· Demonstrated ability to problem solve to keep the patient safe

· Advanced assessment skills and knowledge is essential

· Demonstrated communication skills necessary to interact with interdisciplinary teams, patients, families and care givers

· Dependability, reliability and adaptability

· Demonstrates behavior consistent with Grand River Hospital’s mission, vision and values
