Position: Underwriter, International Financing Guarantee (level 13 - 18)

Employment Type: Permanent

Compensation Details: Salaries are based on qualifications and experience, and typically range as set out below. EDC also offers a performance-based incentive.

Underwriter 13 (Associate Financing Manager): $51,955 - $69,273 Underwriter 15 (Sr. Associate Financing Manager): $65,172 - $86.898 Underwriter 17 (Financing Manager): $84,698 - $112,931 Underwriter 18 (Senior Financing Manager): $96,557 - $128,743

This process will fill one current, permanent vacancy and will also be used to build a pool for future Underwriter opportunities at levels 13-18 over the next 12 months. Candidates will be assessed at the level that best aligns with their experience and demonstrated capability.

Location:

Export Development Canada operates in a hybrid work environment, with a current requirement of two days per week increasing to three days per week in September 2026 (subject to change). This role can be performed from EDC's headquarters in Ottawa or from one of our Community Hubs located in Toronto, Montreal, Quebec City, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Regina, Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, or Vancouver Relocation assistance is available for candidates who meet the eligibility criteria for permanent roles only.

Team & Job Overview

EDC's Small Business & Partnerships ("SB&P") group provides financing solutions in support of Canadian exports and foreign investments to:

Canadian exporters and their foreign customers; Canadian investors and their foreign affiliates; and Financial institutions.

Within SB&P, the International Financing Guarantees team is looking for an enthusiastic finance professional who works well in a team environment, and enjoys interacting with colleagues, banks and clients on a regular basis.

What you will be doing:

The Underwriting & Credit Risk job function is an essential part of EDC's core business services for our customers. This job function identifies, assesses, and manages credit & non-credit, transaction, and portfolio related risks Identifies, assesses and mitigates key transaction risks Provides on-going customer service and support to ensure customer satisfaction throughout the transactional process; Understands financing issues, financial markets terminology and general lending/underwriting practices and, with moderate supervision, applies this knowledge to the risk underwriting and mitigation process; Supports account management function in managing customer expectations at various stages of the process; Working closely with Legal Services, drafts and/or reviews documents to deliver products for transactions; Develop and lead negotiations, explain difficult issues and work to establish consensus; Identify shortcomings and suggest improvements to existing processes, systems and procedures, then delivers a plan for a small element of a change management program with guidance from a project/program manager May oversee work, coach and train more junior transactors. Prepares transaction and credit material, and presents transactions to appropriate DOA and recommends transactions within specified parameters, policies and guidelines

Additional Responsibilities - Associate, Senior Associate only:

Under minimal guidance, completes assigned structuring activities such as pricing and documentation for conventional, repeat transactions involving minimal customization. Undertakes assigned credit risk assessment, applying established methods and models to common, defined risks and mitigants

Additional Responsibilities - Financing Manager, Senior Financing Manager only:

Independently leads proportionate share of transactions with increasing complexity requiring greater in-depth credit analysis; Leads or advises on, with minimal guidance, the assessment/validation and recommendation of common, defined credit/non-credit risks and mitigants. Under guidance, undertakes the assessment/validation and recommendation of complex, irregular and/or significant credit/non-credit risks involving broad sets of mitigants. OR for same endorses, authorizes and/or provides advice on risks, mitigants and related processes and guidelines. Determines financial eligibility of customers, borrowers and other counter parties and drafts and/or reviews documents to deliver products

What we are looking for:

Completed an Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance or related field Knowledge of structuring/restructuring in commercial lending and/or loan portfolio management.

Experience requirements will vary by level:

Underwriter 13: Typically 1 year or less of relevant experience. You may be early in your underwriting or financial risk career, with experience supporting routine files or transactions and applying established processes with guidance Underwriter 15: Typically 2 years of relevant experience. You bring experience managing routine underwriting or risk-related work with growing independence and can apply established frameworks to common transaction scenarios Underwriter 17: Typically 5+ years of relevant experience. You bring strong underwriting experience handling increasingly complex transactions, with the judgment and confidence to lead analyses, navigate challenges, and defend recommendations in broader forums Underwriter 18: Typically 7+ years of relevant experience. You bring deep underwriting expertise and experience with complex, high-risk, or high-visibility transactions, along with the credibility and interpersonal effectiveness to influence across the organization and coach others

What will make you stand out:

MBA Professional designation (CFA or CPA) Financial analysis, credit and financial modeling skills Bilingual in both official languages (French and English)
