Overview
The Cleaner contributes to the daily cleaning requirements at the Kitchener Market, ensuring a clean and welcoming environment. This role involves performing various cleaning tasks, including table clearing, floor care, restroom maintenance, and responding to customer requests.
Responsibilities
- Clear tables when customers are finished, promptly clean table tops and chairs between seating, and check the floor for cleaning as needed.
- Clean and polish metalwork, such as fixtures, fittings, and elevators.
- Sweep, dry mop, and wet mop floors.
- Clean entrance doors, windows, and glass.
- Inspect assigned restrooms every 60 minutes; clean and disinfect sinks, countertops, toilets, mirrors, walls, and all touch spots as required.
- Replenish supplies and refill cleaning bottles with solution from dispensers.
- Restock paper towel and toilet paper dispensers.
- Empty garbage, recycling, and composting receptacles.
- Use a 2-way radio to communicate with staff.
- Receive and respond to calls throughout the day to clean up spills.
- Respond appropriately to customers' requests.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Some secondary school education.
- Up to 1 month of related experience.
- Ability to work various shifts to accommodate work schedules or special projects including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Knowledge of proper floor care and cleaning techniques, including the safe and proper use of custodial equipment such as floor-scrubbers, sweepers, burnishers, floor buffers, and steam cleaners for walls and tiles.
- Knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) for the safe use and clean-up of hazardous materials.
- Well developed customer service skills.
- Reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
