Position: Senior Data Architect

Compensation Details:

  • Data Architect 18: Salaries typically range from $94,664 to $126,219 annually, based on qualifications and experiences, plus a performance-based incentive.

Lo****cation:

  • Export Development Canada operates in a hybrid work environment, currently requiring employees to work in the office 2 days per week. (subject to change)

  • This role can be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa or from one of our Community Hubs located in Toronto, Mississauga, Montreal, Laval, or Brossard.

Team and Job Overview:

The Digital & Technology Solutions (DTS) group under the leadership of the Chief Information Officer was established in 2023 with the mission of empowering our customers and colleagues to take on the world, by seamlessly delivering secure and reliable digital experiences. Digital & Technology Solutions has set out to achieve the following objectives for EDC:

  • Define, execute, and sustain the integrated technology target state, target data model and technology operations required to enable EDC’s 2030 business transformation.
  • Establish and manage the rolling 3 Year Digital Roadmap that sequences the technology outcomes required to achieve the technology target state and facilitate its execution across all domains in the organization.
  • Keep pace with industry trends and emerging technologies, ensuring EDC has access to the digital technology tools it needs to stay relevant in the market and grow Canadian global trade.
  • Lead and ensure integrated digital, data, infrastructure, and cybersecurity implementations to create excellent customer, user, and employee experiences.

As EDC aims to be the leader in helping all Canadian exporters go, grow and succeed internationally, the Enterprise Data Operations & Technology (EDOT) group in EDC continues to play a crucial role in enabling leaders to make better data driven decisions by providing data, data technologies and tools to holistically support business reporting and advanced analytics for actionable insights.

EDOT’s Data Solutions Operations team continues to strengthen the organization’s core Data ecosystem leveraging the enterprise data platform as a primary source of secure, trusted and accessible data. The team ensures consistent data delivery with the Enterprise Data Platform (EDP) through robust pipeline management and advanced data integration, monitoring, and alerting practices.

We are looking for a Senior Data Architect who would play a pivotal role in designing and implementing Master Data Management (MDM)/ Reference Data Management (RDM) solutions in coordination with enterprise-wide entity management capabilities such as CRM, entity lifecycle management (ELM).The ideal candidate would be responsible for designing robust data architecture, supporting business initiatives, and ensuring data solutions align with enterprise standards. This role would collaborate across teams to deliver scalable, compliant, and high-quality data solutions/products, while proactively addressing technical challenges and governance requirements.

What you will be doing:

  • Define and communicate the technical vision for data capabilities and solutions.
  • Lead the design and implementation of data architectures, including integration patterns and platform selection.
  • Support new business initiatives by assessing impacts and gathering requirements.
  • Develop and maintain logical and physical data models, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards.
  • Develop and maintain logical and physical data models, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards and incorporating MDM principles for unified data definitions.
  • Oversee hands-on solution development and integration activities with cross-functional teams, including the deployment of MDM/RDM solutions for robust entity management.
  • Participate in governance activities, such as architecture reviews and compliance planning.
  • Continuously evaluate technology options and manage architectural documentation.

What we are looking for:

  • Undergraduate Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, or a related discipline.

  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience as a Data or Solution Architect.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ hands-on experience architecting, developing, releasing, and maintaining large-scale enterprise data platforms both on premise as well as cloud using Azure/Google/AWS.

  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience developing and maintaining logical/physical data models aligned with enterprise and MDM standards.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience leading hands-on solution development and integration with cross-functional teams, including MDM/RDM deployment.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience participating in governance activities, embedding MDM policies and managing architectural documentation.

  • Exceptional skills in coaching, influencing and driving cross-functional teams, and delivering solutions in a highly complex, dynamic and nebulous environment.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication, critical and strategic thinking, time management, priority planning and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong communication skills with stakeholder management.

  • High level of initiative and ownership.

  • Ability to adapt in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

  • Collaborative mindset with a problem-solving attitude.

What will make you stand out:

  • MBA or University degree in a related business field.
  • Project Management experience or Agile delivery experience.
  • Familiarity with Databricks, Azure Data Lake Storage, Profisee (MDM) and Salesforce (CRM).
  • Bilingual in both official languages (English and French).
