Ontario Hockey Academy:
- Ontario Hockey Academy is an Ontario-approved Ministry of Education private high school (grades 9-12) in the heart of Canadian Hockey in Cornwall, Ontario, Canada.
- We’re a school, a campus, a boarding residence, with dorm parents, hockey coaches, and full-time teaching staff. An academy designed specifically to educate, train, and develop hockey players.
- The Ontario Hockey Academy is a school that is designed to appeal to and meet the escalating need for a training-academic teenage hockey player.
- Home to 160 students from more than 20 different countries, many of whom chose the Ontario Hockey Academy because of its reputation as one of the best private sports schools in Canada.
- 100 boys and 60 girls, 5 boys and 3 girls’ teams
- Our hockey program is developing into a perennial powerhouse in the world of prep school hockey and one of the top schools, placing players in university hockey.
- University preparatory academic courses include English, French, Arts, Health & Physical Education, Mathematics, Science, and Social Science.
- 3-acre Campus, including Residence, Administrative, Education building, and Training Center
- 45 Full-time staff, 12 Residence parents with 24/7 supervision
- Student to Faculty Ratio: 8:1, Class size average - 14 students
Details:
- Term: Full Time
Working Conditions - Requirements:
- It is a demanding schedule, with Day, evening, and weekend work.
- The standard workday is noon to 8 pm, and adjusts as the hockey schedule fluctuates.
- My main duty is to coach a team, along with added tasks of planning, organizing, practices, games, transportation, overseeing player care, and safety.
- All coaches fill their day with added duties (ex: some assist with hockey operations, some assist with teaching academic courses, aid with recruiting and promoting players, help with daily operations, etc.)
- We will have some busy Months (Oct-Nov-Feb-Mar), where hours at times are heavy.
- Commuting to and from OHA from a distance is tough to do.
- Many out-of-town coaches live in the dorm residence to save on their expenses, especially in the first few years.
- Must supply Criminal Record Checks and reference checks.
- Our coaches need to get their C Ontario driver's license that enables them to drive our vans and buses. We assist, teach and pay for the cost of obtaining this license.
Responsibilities:
- We are looking for a committed person to complement our coaching staff.
- You will be responsible for implementing a coaching plan that coincides with the school’s ideologies that we have built with our coach’s feedback over the years.
- It will be fundamental to provide knowledge and instruction to players while also helping them develop their personalities and skills.
- Responsible for assisting in planning, coaching, and organizing team schedules.
- Ensure requirements of the Ontario Ministry and Hockey Canada regulations are fulfilled including planning/meeting expectations, implementing/maintaining player assessments, and following all procedures and rules.
- Provide appropriate reporting and communication and attend staff meetings.
- Ensuring all Hockey Canada expectations are obeyed.
- Provide supervision for the study hall during the week.
- Required to attend staff orientation.
- Extra-curricular activity: Assist in OHA's school activities (e.g., yearbook, winter carnival, social committee, graduation, alumni weekend).
Working Conditions:
- Considerable evening and weekend work.
- Some overnight travel.
- Coaching Certification.
- Able to obtain CPR and first aid.
- Must receive a negative Vulnerable Sector check and a driver abstract.
- Must be currently able to work in Canada or hold a Canadian employment visa.
- Require a C Ontario driver's license that enables them to drive our vans and buses. We assist, teach and pay for the cost of obtaining this license.
