Job Description: Under the direction of the Adult Outpatient Services Manager

and working within an interdisciplinary mental health and addiction team, the Community Mental Health Nurse will provide a range of clinical services to adults with mental health and addiction issues and support to their families.

The incumbent will also serve as an important link between Intermediate Care

Services and the services provided by the Primary Health Care System.

Human Resources Exemption: No

Experience

  • Familiarity with Adults, Adolescents and Children w/ complex case presentations 
  • Min. 2 yrs (post grad) work exp. in community mental health/addiction services

Education

  • Graduate from school of general nursing with training in psychiatric nursing
  • Bachelor of Psychiatric Nursing (BPN)

Memberships

  • Registered Psychiatric Nurses Association of Saskatchewan (RPNAS)

Other Education and Training

  • Bachelor of Nursing is acceptable

  • Identify, implement and evaluate client difficulty areas
  • Knowledge in various intervention strategies for individuals and groups
  • Ability to enter and retrieve data in computer database systems
  • Knowledge and practical application of the Mental Health Services Act and Health Information Protection Act and other legislation
  • Ability to document in a concise and timely manner
  • Knowledge of the diversity of cultures, values and traditions 
  • Ability to design, initiate and conduct training for other professionals
  • Demonstrates leadership abilities
  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrates knowledge of community services, programs, and resources
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • knowledge and skills related to community psychiatric nursing practice
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrates critical thinking, problem solving, conflict resolution skills
  • Provide public education regarding mental health and addiction concerns
  • Ability to work within a change management model

  • Can work flexible hours; ability to work shifts based on operational needs.
  • A valid driver's license and a vehicle is required to carry out duties
