Job Summary
NSC Minerals is seeking an experienced and safety‑driven Site Superintendent to oversee daily plant operations and ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant functioning of the site. This leadership role is responsible for supervising plant activities, supporting employees, coordinating maintenance needs, and ensuring all operational and safety documentation is completed accurately for each shift. The Site Superintendent works closely with the Plant Manager and plays a key role in maintaining operational excellence, supporting employee development, and fostering a strong safety culture.
Duties And Responsibilities
Ensure all plant operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and in accordance with Company polices and procedures. Oversee work in all areas of the plant and provide timely feedback to employees. Verify that drying and loading equipment is functioning properly and coordinate equipment repairs with the Plant Manager. Supervise production activities to ensure product quality meets required specifications. Oversee loading processes to ensure correct product is shipped and provide corrective feedback when necessary. Ensure all required paperwork including field level hazard assessments (FLHAs), permits, drying logs, and maintenance forms are completed accurately and submitted as required. Gather employee feedback on operations, production, and safety, and communicate relevant information to the Plant Manager. Identify opportunities to improve processes, reduce costs, and mitigate risk or hazards. Conduct toolbox talks at the start of each shift and ensure field level hazard assessments (FLHAs) and permits are completed prior to work commencing. Delegate work orders and verify proper completion, including tasks, parts, labour hours, and equipment hours. Work with the Plant Manager to maintain adequate inventory levels to meet production and shipping demands. Promote and reinforce a strong safety culture across the site. Assist the Plant Manager with recruitment activities as needed. Provide training and retraining to employees on equipment, hazards, processes, and procedures. Listen to and act on employee safety concerns. Assist with inspections and investigations in the event of incidents or emergencies. Ensure the yard and facilities including roadways, washrooms, kitchen, locker rooms, exits, and lighting are kept clean and in good condition. Complete equipment checklists, inspections, and field level hazard assessments (FLHAs) as required. Report equipment issues or malfunctions to the Plant Manager promptly. Complete all required safety and equipment training or retraining. Use all required safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE). Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Minimum 5 years of experience in a heavy industrial environment with increasing levels of responsibility. Previous leadership or supervisory experience is considered an asset. A relevant diploma or certificate is considered an asset. Strong problem-solving abilities with sound judgment and decision-making skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and maintenance tracking software. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships at all levels of the organization.
Work Environment
Manual labour may be required when assisting other employees or covering for absences. Working outdoors is required year round. PPE is required to be worn at all times when working on site. Site consists of variations in temperature and noise levels. Sensory attention/mental stress can be quite high during emergency situations and/or high production periods.
