Choices for Youth Inc. (CFY) is a professional service, youth-focused, non-profit, charitable organization that creates space and conversations, and operates programs and social enterprises to help vulnerable youth secure stable housing, employment, and education while improving health and family stability. With a focus on prevention, intervention, and support, we help youth, and young families break cycles of poverty and homelessness and transition to healthy, stable, and independent lives. Our Momma Moments team is seeking to hire one (1) Full-Time, Program Facilitator. This is a contractual position until December 25, 2025, with the possibility of an extension.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Momma Moments Program is a peer-to-peer support and strengths-based group for young parents or pregnant mothers. It provides moms and their children with wrap- around support to navigate the challenges of motherhood, which they often face in addition to social isolation, financial demands, and limited social and family support. Momma Moments currently operates in St. John’s, Conception Bay South and Paradise locations where groups meet once a week for programming that emphasizes overall wellness - mental, physical, spiritual, and social - for both mother and child. Young mothers have access to healthy recreational activities, as well as resources and discussions on topics of family building, income support, mental health, education, nutrition, and more.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Facilitate referrals/intakes and implement strengths-based support plans for participants.
- Create space for positive family relationships using predictable structures and clear expectations.
- Provide advocacy, accompaniment, and referral services to moms and children.
- Intervene effectively and appropriately to crisis and conflict using supportive counselling, problem-solving, and clear communication.
- Ensure that services provided reflect the needs of clients and their children.
- Ensure documentation of relevant client information is up to date and is in accordance with CFY’s policy on the security and maintenance of client information.
- Nurture and contribute to the unique culture of the organization.
- Commit to helping CFY achieve the goals of its strategic plan.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Degree or diploma in social sciences field
- Minimum 3 years’ experience working with young families
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of issues pertaining to homeless, street-involved, and at-risk youth
- Advanced understanding of the systems affecting families and children through a family-centered approach
- Ability to work independently and within a team while supporting and achieving the overall goals of the program
- Thorough knowledge of community resources and support for youth and families
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and advocacy skills are essential
- Understanding of substance use disorders and vulnerable populations
- Experience with facilitating Family Resource Programs such as Mother Goose, Nobody’s Perfect, Handle with Care, and Healthy Baby Club
- Demonstrated experience in using trauma-informed, harm reduction, and non-judgmental practice/approach would be an asset
- First Aid/CPR and ASIST training
- Satisfactory Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector check
- Active drivers license and access to a vehicle
WORK HOURS
Hours of work for this position is 35 hours per week and flexibility in work hours will be required including evening and weekend work to accommodate various groups, after hours appointments for clients and to accommodate higher work volumes and organizational requirements.
COMPENSATION
The starting salary for this position is $50,958.18 - $56,620.20 annually. Choices for Youth offers a competitive compensation package, including: a health and dental program, employer-matched RRSP, and four weeks’ vacation to qualifying employees.
