The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Commissioner, Planning & Development and Chief Planner, this role is responsible for setting the strategic direction for the Town’s economic development and tourism services. You will lead the development of programs, policies, and initiatives that foster job growth, economic diversification, entrepreneurship, and innovation. You will be responsible for positioning the Town of Caledon as a competitive destination for business and tourism investment, contributing to the Town’s goal of achieving 125,000 jobs by 2051.

As the Manager, Business Attraction and Investment, you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:

Lead the development of economic development and tourism strategies, policies, and programs that align with corporate strategic goals.

  • Oversee business support services, including business retention and expansion initiatives and the Town’s small business support hub at the Humber River Centre.

  • Lead local and international investment attraction efforts to promote Caledon as a preferred destination for business investment.

  • Build and maintain strategic partnerships with stakeholders, including Chambers of Commerce, Toronto Metropolitan University’s DMZ, and major national sports organizations.

  • Represent the Town at delegations, trade shows, industry events, and conferences to advance economic development and tourism priorities.

  • Provide strategic advice and reports to Council and the Senior Leadership Team on economic development trends, opportunities, and issues of strategic importance.

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop staff within the Business Attraction and Investment division, ensuring resources are aligned with corporate and community needs.

  • Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Town policies, and relevant regulations while fostering a culture of service excellence.

The Ideal Candidate

We are seeking a strategic and collaborative professional with a post-secondary university degree in Business Administration, Planning, Public Administration, Economics, Economic Development, or a related discipline. Our ideal candidate has 5–7 years of experience in economic development, business, or planning, along with 3–5 years of leadership or supervisory experience managing complex and cross-functional projects.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated expertise in economic development strategy, investment attraction, and stakeholder engagement. We are seeking an individual with superior communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, a demonstrated ability to lead teams and build partnerships, and excellent decision-making and analytical skills.

Professional designations such as Economic Developer (Ec.D.), Project Management Professional (PMP), or planning professional certification are considered assets. Experience in a municipal leadership role is also an advantage.

The successful candidate for Manager, Business Attraction and Investment will be required to work a flexible schedule, including in the office, remotely, and after hours as required. A valid driver’s licence (with no more than three demerit points) and daily access to a vehicle are required.

This position offers a salary range of $135,329.15 to $169,161.44 plus a competitive benefit package.
