The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital is growing its team. As a Level II NICU, we provide specialized care for premature newborns and infants experiencing health challenges. Our multidisciplinary team includes Nurses, Respiratory Therapists, Physicians, Social Workers, Dietitians, and a range of allied health professionals dedicated to delivering exceptional care. As part of the Women and Children’s Health portfolio, NICU staff also collaborate closely with our sister unit, Pediatrics, and provide support to Labour & Delivery and Maternal/Child units as needed. Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the past five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required prior to employment: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4): https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/learning-and-development/learning-modules NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification: https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Knowledge of assessing and providing care for a newborn. Strong verbal and written communication skills with care team and patients/clients, especially in facilitating information transfer between care team and parents. Assessment skills to recognize and respond appropriately to patient/client change in status. Demonstrated critical thinking skills and responses. Ability to perform duties as outlined on the Physical Demand Statement (PDS) for the position. Ability to safeguard AHS information as private and confidential. Ability to follow and adhere to AHS policies, procedures, goals and objectives. Reliable and dependable. Demonstrated teamwork and ability to work well with others in small groups, especially interdisciplinary team. Strong time management and prioritization skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

2-3 years acute care or relevant clinical care experience preferred. Proven technical and clinical skills pertinent to NICU nursing preferred. NICU Charge Nurse skill and experience preferred. Experience/knowledge of lactation and the ability to assist/teach mothers to feed their baby preferred. Experience/knowledge of perinatal bereavement and the ability to assist family to cope with newborn loss preferred.
