Job Summary

A Brief Overview

The Faculty of Law is nationally and internationally recognized as a leading law school, with a distinguished record of outstanding teaching and research. In addition to offering the JD and graduate (LLM and PhD) programs, the Faculty of Law also offers innovative online programs such as the Certificate in Law and the Graduate Diploma in Immigration and Citizenship Law, along with Professional Certificate Programs designed to meet the evolving needs of the legal profession and related markets.

Reporting to the Assistant Dean, Graduate Studies and Professional Programs, the Instructional Design Support Assistant will support the creation and maintenance of high-quality online learning modules. The incumbent will focus on building and updating course materials, such as HTML content pages, interactive activities, and multimedia elements, within the Learning Management System (LMS), and will ensure all materials meet quality standards by checking accessibility compliance, testing hyperlinks, verifying video transcripts, and confirming a logical content flow.

This position offers a valuable opportunity for individuals seeking to build experience and expand their skills in instructional design and educational technology. The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, comfortable with technology, and eager to learn new tools while adapting to evolving online learning platforms. They will work under the guidance of other members of the Educational Development (EdDev) team to ensure the smooth and consistent delivery of engaging online courses.

Job Description
What you will do Assists the course development team to develop online learning modules by reviewing videos and narrated presentations prior to final editing.

Monitors question forums daily to identify, troubleshoot, and address technical or administrative support issues with using course delivery software.

Participates in the quality assurance process by ensuring that course materials use the appropriate template, performing hyperlink integrity checks, confirming the content of video transcripts, and confirming logic information chunking.

Updates content for online courses within the LMS.

Updates content on webpages.

Creates, edits, and uploads recorded media products to virtual classroom environments.

  • Other duties as required in support of the department and/or unit.

Required Education

  • Two-Year Community College Diploma. In addition, requires on-going learning to remain ahead of changes in technology or emerging fields.

Required Experience

  • More than 1 year and up to and including 2 years of experience.
    • Experience with learning management system functionalities and standards is considered an asset.

    • Familiarity with online learning strategies considered an asset.

    • Knowledge of eLearning standards and best practices as well as emerging learning technologies is considered an asset.

    • Experience in IT software and systems with a focus on designing curriculum/content considered an asset (e.g., tests, visual aids, etc.).

    • Experience with web/graphics/audio/video editing tools is considered an asset.

    • Experience working with diverse populations/equity deserving groups considered an asset.

    • Experience working at a post-secondary education institution considered an asset.

    • Experience with providing administrative support considered an asset (e.g., document editing, proofing, formatting and production, data entry, scheduling/coordinating meetings and/or travel arrangements, receiving/relaying messages, etc.).

Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.
