Position Summary: We are currently recruiting Junior Machinists (Operators) to join our team in Calgary, AB at our Calgary 8 facility. The Junior CNC Machinist is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining a variety of machines within the Machine Shop.

Key Responsibilities:

  • This position demonstrates safe working practices in the machining, fabrication and modification of aeronautical components.
  • Responsible for setting up, operating and maintaining a variety of machines including computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines to perform precision machining operations such as sawing, turning, milling, boring, drilling, routing, and other operations.
  • Verify dimensions of products for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments.
  • Machining airframe components per specifications and blueprints.
  • Responsibility to be the first line of resolution for problem solving.
  • Opportunities to receive mentorship from Senior Machinists.
  • Opportunities for continuous learning and developing knowledge of machining, equipment, and tooling concepts in manufacturing.
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems at the machine to maximize machine “uptime.”
  • Edit current programs and create new, accurate programs for multiple CNC Routers.
  • Ability to coach multiple CNC Operators over multiple shifts.
  • Complete any other duties or assignments as delegated by lead hand and/or management.

Qualifications & Experience: Please note this is a unionized position; below are the qualifications and competencies required for this role and corresponds with wages outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

  • 3+ years of experience of CNC Machining; Year 1 to 4 apprenticeship would be considered an asset.
  • Experience operating a CNC router (sheet aluminum preferred), CNC Mills, or CNC Lathe is preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience with CNC Router Programming (V Carve, Mastercam preferred) is considered an asset.
  • Understanding of CNC programs and G-code.
  • Ability to translate the requirements of detailed part drawings into measurements for part verification.
  • Ability to perform daily, weekly & monthly maintenance on equipment.
  • Working knowledge of typical Windows Applications and file management.
  • Critical thinking skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative team environment.

Shift Schedule: Preference will be given to candidates who are flexible and available to work either evening or weekend shift, based on the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
