Job Description:

The Lake Louise Ski Resort (LLSR) International Volunteer Program Team Leader will be responsible for communicating between Program Volunteers and internal and external stakeholders. The Team Leader will ensure that all Lake Louise Ski Resort OHS and Employee policies are upheld by the Volunteers and will supervise and work with the Volunteers to ensure all tasks assigned are completed in a timely manner. Ron Allen or the LLSR designated manager will be the primary contact between the program partners and with the assistance of the Team Leader, prioritize and assign tasks from the ski area and program partners.

Job Responsibilities:

  • The Team Leader should be at work ten minutes before starting times to prepare for arrival of volunteers.
  • Provide orientation training to volunteers using existing PowerPoint displays and ski hill documents.
  • Record daily morning safety discussions prior to commencing volunteer activities.
  • Carry out a monthly schedule cycle: Each month there is a cycle of projects, activities, and a new group of a minimum of 2-3 volunteers to a maximum of 4.
  • Implement assigned activities and encourage teamwork within the volunteer groups through motivation and working along side them, while also building rapport with LLSR staff and external partners.
  • Record daily activities and time spent with each activity, take pictures and a few short videos.
  • Organize and manage the required equipment for each volunteer activity and report needs to the Manager in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for the overall safety of volunteers, staff, and visitors at all volunteer activity sites.
  • Ensure that there is a balance between program needs and volunteer expectations.
  • Set expectations through leading by example and demonstrating a strong work ethic.
  • Ensure any requirements for wearing safety equipment are fulfilled and periodically check volunteer accommodation to ensure cleanliness, and that health and safety standards outlined in the tenancy agreement are being met. Ensure there is an adequate amount of any required safety equipment provided by the company and advise the Manager if more is required or work with the Parts Department to address this.
  • As this program is dynamic, the team leader should be prepared for sudden changes to pre-planned activities and needs. The LLSR Program Manager and Team Leader will co-develop a list of contingencies for use during inclement weather that precludes outdoor work.
  • Mentor the volunteers, ensuring knowledge of the local free public transit options available to them, services available and their LLSR staff pass benefits etc. The Manager will introduce the Team Leader to department Supervisors and Managers they may need to work with when needed. The Department Manager is usually available 7 days a week for messages or phone calls.

Job Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Capable of being able to separate personal connections with volunteers versus work related needs during work activities. At all times, the Team Leader represents the company first and foremost.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Able to work hands-on in all weather conditions
  • Self-motivated, can work well in a team or independently
  • Commitment to the goals and values of LLSR and its volunteer program as well as those of its partners.
  • Capable of periodic physical labor using basic hand (non-powered) tools and some appropriate smaller power tools in varying terrain. This type of work is dependent on the ability of the volunteer groups and is assessed during on-site work and demonstration of tool use.
  • Candidates should be capable of hiking varying distances, difficulty, and duration due to the necessity of periodic hiking (as is required for the volunteers). Example: Each group will hike to and from Skoki Lodge the same day (weather permitting).
  • Must hold a valid Basic or Standard level first aid certificate, preferred is a Level 1 Remote Wilderness First Aid or higher.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s license along with a 3-year Claims Experience Letter and a driver’s abstract or equivalent acceptable to the LLSR insurance company.**Note!**International licenses also require the 3-year claims experience letter. The ease of obtaining this can depend on your insurer back home, some can take quite a while to process. This must be provided at the time of interview.
  • A Police Background Check from your home country or province will be required upon commencement of employment.
  • Adherence to all Alberta Workplace OH&S /WCB, LLSR and partner safety requirements.

Work Schedule:

  • The Team Leader position is a salaried position with 5 Days On-8 hours per day / 2 Days Off (usually Saturday and Sunday but not guaranteed). Schedule needs to be flexible to meet some volunteer needs and to accommodate partner special events as approved by the LLSR Managers. The Program Manager will discuss this in more detail. The Department Manager will explain how this works as a mutual benefit during the interview process.

Dress Code:

Uniform as required, is provided for a fee (LLSR cap and logo work T-shirt).

You are to provide all other necessary items in accordance with appearance policy and employee handbook requirements.
