Position Summary

The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates for telecommunications and light civil construction projects. Working closely with the Lead Estimator, you'll prepare quantity take-offs, develop project pricing, obtain supplier and subcontractor quotations, and assist with change orders throughout project execution.

This role is ideal for someone with 1–5 years of estimating experience who is looking to continue developing their career. Experience in the telecommunications industry is a strong asset, while candidates with light civil construction estimating experience and a willingness to learn will also be considered.

Core Duties & Responsibilities Estimating

Prepare accurate quantity take-offs from drawings, specifications, and tender documents. Develop detailed cost estimates for telecommunications and light civil construction projects. Review drawings, specifications, contracts, and bid documents. Solicit and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations. Prepare labour, equipment, material, and subcontractor pricing. Analyze production rates, equipment requirements, and project risks. Identify value engineering opportunities and cost-saving solutions. Prepare tender submissions and supporting documentation. Maintain estimating databases and historical pricing records. Participate in project turnover meetings following successful bid awards.

Change Orders & Project Support

Prepare and price change orders, scope revisions, and extra work quotations. Review contracts and project documentation to identify change order opportunities. Support Project Managers with pricing for additional work and unforeseen site conditions. Assist with estimate revisions and cost tracking as projects progress.

Collaboration

Work closely with the Lead Estimator throughout the estimating process. Collaborate with Operations, Project Managers, suppliers, subcontractors, and clients to ensure accurate and competitive pricing. Attend site visits, pre-bid meetings, and tender walkthroughs as required. Build and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Health, Safety & Environmental Responsibilities

Follow all BAAC health and safety policies and procedures. Participate in required safety meetings and training. Promote safe work practices during site visits. Report hazards, incidents, and safety concerns promptly. Support BAAC's commitment to maintaining a safe workplace.

Qualifications

1–5 years of estimating experience within light civil construction, underground utilities, or a related construction industry. Experience in telecommunications construction is considered a strong asset. Experience preparing and submitting change orders, contract extras, and scope revisions is considered an asset. Exposure to project coordination or project management is considered an asset. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and contracts. Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Excellent organizational and time management abilities. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office. Experience with Bluebeam, HeavyBid, Bid2Win, HCSS, or similar estimating software is considered an asset. Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence.
