Elementary Literacy & Numeracy Achievement Consultant
(Elementary Focus – Grades 3 & 6)
Term Position
September 1, 2026 – June 30, 2029, subject to annual budget approval, system organization, and Ministry funding.
Position Summary
The Elementary Literacy & Numeracy Achievement Consultant will provide targeted support to improve student achievement in both mathematics and literacy. Assigned to a Ministry priority school or a school identified by the board based on student needs, this role involves working directly with students, collaborating with educators, and supporting school administrators in implementing effective instructional strategies to enhance EQAO performance and overall student success. The Elementary Literacy & Numeracy Achievement Consultants will work with Grade 3 and 6 classroom teachers to deliver curriculum. Additionally, these consultants will work directly with students who require additional support within the classroom to close learning gaps using high-impact instructional strategies and intervention techniques.
Qualifications
Basic: Primary/Junior Divisions or Junior/Intermediate Divisions Strong background in elementary mathematics and literacy instruction. Experience in student assessment, data analysis, and intervention strategies. Proven ability to collaborate with educators, administrators, and school support teams. Familiarity with EQAO frameworks, new curriculum expectations, and evidence-based instructional practices. Strong communication, leadership, and coaching skills.
Duties And Responsibilities
Mathematics Support:
Work directly with small groups of students in Grades 3 and 6 to improve math achievement and raise EQAO scores. Support the implementation of new math digital tools and instructional strategies. Provide job-embedded professional development for educators in priority schools, focusing on effective mathematics instruction. Assist administrators in leading math learning initiatives within their schools. Work alongside the Student Achievement Team and the Special Education Department to support, plan, and implement math intervention programs.
Literacy Support
Support the implementation of the Language Curriculum, including the use of updated assessments and screening tools. Collaborate with classroom teachers to provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 reading interventions for students requiring additional literacy support. Facilitate the rollout and administration of the literacy screener, ensuring students receive appropriate interventions. Will be assigned to more than one school for literacy screener support. Work alongside the Student Achievement Team and the Special Education Department to support, plan, and implement reading intervention programs. Assist in ongoing assessment and evaluation of students’ foundational literacy skills.
Collaboration & Professional Development
Provide coaching and mentorship to educators on best practices in both numeracy and literacy instruction. Support the development and implementation of school-based action plans for improving student achievement in math and literacy. Coordinate and facilitate professional learning sessions for teachers to strengthen their instructional strategies.
Assignment & School Support
Consultants will be assigned to a Ministry priority school or a school determined by the board based on identified student needs. Work closely with school leadership to develop and implement strategies tailored to the specific needs of the assigned school. Support school teams in analyzing student achievement data to inform instructional decisions and interventions.
