In this high-impact environment, your technical expertise will help ensure reliable telecommunications systems that support ambulance and dispatch centres, contributing directly to better outcomes for patients and communities across Ontario.

About the job

As part of our team, you will:

• resolve technology-related issues by initiating software changes, adjusting or replacing telecommunication devices, and coordinating efforts to resolve software and hardware problems

• escalate outages based on severity to minimize disruptions and reduce costs

• develop, program, implement, report, and monitor systems that track the performance of integrated voice, data, and radio equipment

• provide training to dispatch managers and supervisors to ensure uninterrupted ambulance communications

• participate in system design planning by conducting detailed studies and translating requirements into functional technical specifications

• manage system change control by reviewing proposed changes, assessing impacts to dispatch centres and services, and recommending appropriate actions

What you bring to the team

Mandatory requirements

You have:

• a valid class 'G' driver's licence with the ability to travel within the province frequently

• Basic CPR Certification, first aid, and radio operation, or the ability to obtain such certification

Additional requirements

You may need to be:

• available for on-call, standby, and occasional return to work to provide technical support for ministry-critical systems on 24/7 basis

• willing to travel throughout the assigned area, including occasional multi-day trips to rural and remote locations, including but not limited to radio tower sites, hospitals and ambulance bases in areas not serviced by public or commercial transportation

Telecommunications knowledge

You have expertise in:

• communication technologies, including Avaya Aura R10, Analog Trunking, Avaya gateways, and data networks

• telecommunications technologies such as Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), satellite telecommunications, and Avaya Communication Manager, and Session Manager

• electronics technologies, with the ability to apply theories, principles, and practices related to voice, data, radio, and satellite telecommunications

• integrated voice and data switching systems, computer data communications architecture, and radio trunking system design

• structural and mechanical engineering concepts related to communication towers and equipment buildings

• operation of basic radio frequency test equipment (e.g. wattmeters, voltmeters, systems monitors, or analyzers)

Project management skills

You can apply project management methodologies to plan, coordinate, and deliver technical initiatives.

Communication and analytical skills

You can:

• communicate effectively with staff, ambulance service personnel, vendors, and other government agencies

• build and maintain strong working relationships across diverse teams and stakeholders

• conduct feasibility studies, analyze results, and perform cost benefit analysis

• navigate basic real estate processes, including understanding relevant rules, approvals, and boards, to help secure property for antenna sites

Technical skills

You have:

• experience with Linux, Windows Server 2019/2020, and encryption technologies (TLS, SRTP)

• knowledge of Avaya Core/Enterprise Survivable Server (ESS) failover configuration, including ESS clusters and Server Role Configuration (OVA type and Virtual Machine Role).

• the ability to support the creation and execution of cross-browser, end-to-end flow, and unit tests

• familiarity with public safety and emergency response systems, including ESISNet, E911, Canadian Next Generation 911, Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs), and Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems
