About the Role
The Hair Stylist is an independent contractor position that reports to the General Manager and/ or designate. This role is responsible for providing professional hair services to persons served in the community. Services are delivered to residents within the framework of a predominantly elderly community with diverse ethnic and cultural experiences.
Responsibilities
Include but not limited to;
- Be an engaged collaborative team player, developing and maintaining professional relationships that support and strengthen the organizational culture and purpose.
- Cutting, trimming, and setting and coloring hair for residents according to resident/substitute decision maker’s wishes.
- Quickly responds to resident’s concerns about hair styling. Helps foster and maintain a relaxed and positive salon atmosphere.
- Attends trainings and informative programs.
- Keeps tools and workstation clean.
- Maintains a professional and friendly approach.
- Maintains a safe environment for residents, family and staff, through: accident prevention, knowledge of emergency procedures and regulations, the safe use of supplies and equipment and reporting when repairs are necessary, and utilizing infection control procedures
- Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Minimum 1 year of beauty service experience.
- Cosmetology or barber license an asset.
- Knowledge of different hair tools and products.
- Creative, artistic, and innovative.
- Experience working with dementia clients an asset.
- All successful applicants must pass the vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check applicable to Provincial guidelines.
- Ability to push, pull, stoop, crouch, lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Must be able to work with cleaners, detergents and other cleaning equipment.
- Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently and understand verbal and written instructions.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Basic computer skills including Word and Outlook.
