About The Team The Future Presidencies Unit sits in the Global Issues & Governance (GIG) team, promoting and protecting HMT's interests internationally through major multilateral economic forum.
It is a relatively new team leading the policy development and delivery of the Finance Tracks for future UK Presidencies of multilateral organisations, with it confirmed that the UK will host the G7 in 2028 and expected that we will host the G20 soon.
Both the G7 and G20 are led by a presidency country which rotates year on year, with responsibility for setting the agenda of that year, hosting meetings, delivering consensus across shared priorities.
About The Job Key accountabilities for this role will include:
- Delivery lead for in-person and virtual events for the Finance Track, including budget oversight to ensure value for money, management of contractors and end-to-end event management. Close liaison with Cabinet Office and other government departments on meeting delivery.
- Working level delivery of the Finance Track Secretariat function including ownership of processes and engagement with membership, including creation and circulation of agendas, issues notes and other documentation.
- Working level project management lead for the Presidencies, ensuring join-up and effective collaboration across policy and delivery branches. Driving activity across HMT and with other departments to ensure deadlines are met.
- Drafting of high-quality briefings for senior officials and Ministers to ensure delivery is aligned to broader policy priorities and provide regular status updates.
- Work with HMT comms teams to drive engagement of the Presidencies within the department, external stakeholders and the media.
- Potential line management of a HEO.
This role will sit in the delivery branch of the Presidencies Unit, working closely with policy colleagues to establish and run the secretariat function, governance, communications, finance and contracting, project management and delivery of all in-person and virtual events for the Finance Track. Portfolios will adapt and change during the lifecycle of the project and all team members will be expected to work flexibly across workstreams as required.
Roles are exciting and challenging with significant responsibility. It will be a fast-paced period in the run up to and during the Presidencies and will require an ability to deliver at pace and agility, so as a team we can respond nimbly to global events.
