Works Technician 4 (Ops) - Facilities Management

The successful incumbent will provide leadership, technical expertise and apply engineering principles and practices. In addition, they will develop, manage and review technical aspects of Regional Capital program/projects pertaining to New Major/Minor Capital and existing infrastructure, and provide expertise to all Regional departments and projects as required

on behalf of Facilities Maintenance and Operations.

The incumbent will:

  • Lead, direct and advise Consultants that are composing specifications for current and future projects to take place in our Regional Capital program
  • Work with contracted services delivery, specification development and contract management
  • Review and advise on engineering deliverables and ensure procedures and expectations are met
  • Follow up on completion of projects and programs. Review reports, specifications and technical documents
  • Research and compose technical specifications for Major and Minor capital program/projects
  • Inspect and monitor Contractors performing and executing work on Capital projects for Quality Assurance
  • Monitor, troubleshoot and respond to building systems failures and problems across the Region
  • Represent Facilities Maintenance and Operations at various meetings and provide expertise and technical engineering advice on various project and issues

The successful applicant will possess:

  • A three-year post-secondary diploma in Engineering Technology or a related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Registration or be eligible for registration as a Technologist with O.A.C.E.T.T will be an asset
  • Several years of related experience
  • Experience in report writing, project management including estimating and budgets as well as specification writing with the ability to interpret and develop engineering drawings
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Ontario Building Code, Ontario Electrical Safety Code, Provincial/Federal Statutes and Regulations, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Region's Purchasing By-Law, process for procurement of consulting services, housing services capital planning process and tender documentation
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and AutoCAD
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, time management, project management and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

CUPE 1764 Salary Grade 8

  • Start: $50.43 - Six Month: $53.23 - Job: $56.03
