Compensation Details:

  • Data Engineer 15: Salaries typically range from $65,172 to $86,898 annually, based on qualifications and experiences.

Location:

  • Export Development Canada operates in a hybrid work environment, with a current requirement of twoin-office days per week, increasing to three days per week in September 2026 (subject to change).
  • This role can be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa or from one of our Community Hubs located in Toronto, Mississauga, Montreal, Brossard, or Laval.

Team Overview:

  • The Digital & Technology Solutions (DTS) group under the leadership of the Chief Information Officer was established in 2023 with the mission of empowering our customers and colleagues to take on the world, by seamlessly delivering secure and reliable digital experiences. Digital & Technology Solutions has set out to achieve the following objectives for EDC:

o Define, execute, and sustain the integrated technology target state, target data model and technology operations required to enable EDC’s 2030 business transformation.

o Establish and manage the rolling 3 Year Digital Roadmap that sequences the technology outcomes required to achieve the technology target state and facilitate its execution across all domains in the organization.

o Keep pace with industry trends and emerging technologies, ensuring EDC has access to the digital technology tools it needs to stay relevant in the market and grow Canadian global trade.

o Lead and ensure integrated digital, data, infrastructure, and cybersecurity implementations to create excellent customer, user, and employee experiences.

As EDC aims to be the leader in helping all Canadian exporters go, grow and succeed internationally, the Enterprise Data Operations & Technology (EDOT) group in EDC continues to play a crucial role in enabling leaders to make better data driven decisions by providing data, data technologies and tools to holistically support business reporting and advanced analytics for actionable insights.

EDOT’s Data Solutions Ops team continues to strengthen the organization’s core Data ecosystem leveraging the enterprise data platform as a primary source of secure, trusted and accessible data. The team ensures consistent data delivery with the Enterprise Data Platform (EDP) through robust pipeline management and advanced data integration, monitoring, and alerting practices.

We are looking for an Associate Data Engineer who would support the development, operation, and quality of data pipelines and data products on EDC’s Enterprise Data Platform, working under the guidance of senior team members. This role would focus on learning modern data engineering practices while contributing to reliable, secure, and data‑driven solutions that support business decision‑making.

What you will be doing:

  • Support the collection, preparation, and transformation of data on EDC’s Enterprise Data Platform (EDP) using established tools, standards, and development practices, under the guidance of more experienced team members
  • Assist in the development and operation of data pipelines to ensure timely, accurate, and reliable delivery of data to analytics, reporting, and business users across EDC
  • Contribute to data management activities by helping maintain data quality, consistency, and documentation, and by responding to routine data-related questions or issues
  • Participate in the design and implementation of simple data models, transformations, and prototypes that support business and operational requirements
  • Support data-driven analysis by assisting with investigations into data issues, trends, and opportunities for improving data products and services
  • Learn and apply modern data engineering tools and technologies used at EDC (e.g., cloud-based data platforms and processing frameworks) and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the team
  • Assist with monitoring data pipelines and applications, identifying straightforward defects or failures, and applying standard fixes or escalating issues through established support processes
  • Perform quality assurance and validation activities by executing predefined tests, reviewing results, and ensuring data solutions meet documented requirements and standards
  • Collaborate with data engineers, analysts, and business partners in an agile team environment, demonstrating a willingness to learn, ask questions, and grow technical and professional skills.

What we are looking for:

  • Education: Completed an Undergraduate Degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science or Engineering, Commerce, Business, or related field.
  • Years of Experience: Minimum 1 to 2 years’ experience in data engineering and/or software engineering.
  • Experience with Cloud Data Platform such as Databricks, Cloudera, Hortonworks etc.
  • Minimum 1 year experience with programming languages such as Python, Scala or Java .
  • Good oral and written communication skills, with the ability to convey ideas clearly to both business and technical audiences, supported by strong listening and storytelling abilities.

What will make you stand out:

  • Experience working with cloud data platform technologies: Azure Data Lake Store (ADLS), Azure Synapse, Azure Functions and EventHub
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, critical thinking, time management, priority planning and interpersonal skills
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Project Management experience - Agile delivery
  • Bilingual in both official languages (French and English).
