We are currently seeking a dedicated and safety-driven OFA Level 3 First Aid Attendant to support our field operations in and around Cranbrook, BC.

Position Summary

The OFA Level 3 First Aid Attendant plays a critical role in supporting MacKay’s commitment to “Be Safe Always” by serving as both an emergency response professional and an active contributor to overall site safety culture.

This position is responsible for providing emergency medical treatment, supporting injury prevention initiatives, promoting safe work practices, and helping crews maintain compliance with company policies and WorkSafeBC regulations. The OFA3 Attendant is often one of the most visible safety-focused roles on site and is expected to lead through professionalism, communication, and proactive involvement with crews and supervision.

The successful candidate will work closely with Supervisors, Safety Advisors, Equipment Operators, Labourers, and Project Teams to ensure safety remains a priority in all aspects of field operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide emergency medical response and first aid treatment to injured or ill workers

  • Respond quickly, calmly, and professionally during emergencies and high-pressure situations

  • Promote and reinforce MacKay’s “Be Safe Always” core value through daily interactions and leadership on site

  • Actively encourage workers to follow safe work procedures and identify hazards before incidents occur

  • Maintain accurate first aid treatment records, injury documentation, and incident reports

  • Assist with incident investigations, hazard assessments, and corrective action follow-up

  • Participate in toolbox meetings, site safety meetings, FLHAs, and worker orientations

  • Conduct regular inspections of first aid equipment, treatment areas, emergency supplies, and response vehicles

  • Coordinate emergency transportation and communication when required

  • Support modified work and return-to-work initiatives where applicable

  • Build positive working relationships with crews while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality

  • Help foster a team environment where workers feel comfortable reporting concerns, injuries, and unsafe conditions

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and inspection-ready first aid environment at all times

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Valid Occupational First Aid Level 3 (OFA3) Certification recognized in British Columbia

  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean driver’s abstract

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to remain calm and professional in emergency situations

  • Strong organizational and documentation skills

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a field team

  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather and construction environments

Preferred Assets

  • Previous experience in civil construction, mining, or industrial environments

  • Transportation Endorsement (TE)

  • Experience with WorkSafeBC documentation and reporting

  • Safety certifications such as CSTS, WHMIS, TDG, or Ground Disturbance Level II

  • Knowledge of heavy equipment and civil construction operations

Working Conditions

  • Based out of Cranbrook, BC with travel to local project sites as required

  • Primarily field-based work in active construction environments

  • May require overtime, weekend work, or flexible scheduling depending on project demands

  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, uneven terrain, and active heavy equipment operations
