Location: Abbotsford

The Client Services Specialist reports to the Program Supervisor and is part of a skilled team that supports individuals and families who are facing issues of food security, poverty, social isolation and opportunity. This position works as a member of a team to create access to food and use a client-centered approach to support individuals and various programs supporting the Ethical Food Banking Code.

The position is involved in the daily operations of the Archway Food Bank and the programs it runs, primarily food distribution and client services. This includes initial greeting of new clients and directing them to the Client Services Navigator. The Client Services Specialist will value all people and their diversity and will demonstrate this in providing service in a trauma-informed, timely, courteous, and friendly manner. The Client Services Specialist will be a versatile and flexible member of the team capable of supporting all food access programs. In addition, the Client Services Specialist supports the Manager, Food Security in providing a client-centered, human rights, social justice–based approach to supporting individuals and families.

Your Role:

Archway’s Client Service Specialist with the Food Bank contributes by:

  • Fulfilling one of three Client Services roles that are scheduled on daily rotation in the morning and afternoon by Client Services Lead. These roles- Desk, Outside, and Finisher- work together to ensure smooth, client-centered food distribution.
  • Supporting Client Services program lead in assisting with client intake for food distribution programs, collecting client information, opening client files, and entering client information into the client database (Link2Feed).
  • Providing support to the Fresh Food Recovery program by ensuring the recovery of food is recovered for safe consumption, safe handling, and proper labeling.
  • Providing support and direction to volunteers, ensuring compliance with Food Banks Canada’s Ethical Food Banking Code.
  • Providing flexible coverage for one or several of the following programs: Food Distribution, Fresh-Food Recovery, Hamper Distribution, Home Delivery and Administration, including greeting clients and directing new clients to the Client Service Navigator.
  • Connecting clients with food distribution programs such as Christmas Bureau, Bulk Buy, satellite locations and Home Delivery, or connects them with the Client Services Navigator as needed.

###Getting an Interview–you will be considered if you have:

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Successful completion of Safe Food Handling course (Food Banks Canada).
  • 2 years’ experience in a customer service position.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office.
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations is preferred.
  • Experience coordinating and directing volunteers is an asset.

The Job Requires you to have:

  • Well-developed verbal, written, and active listening skills; able to communicate effectively and respectfully with people from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Good organization, planning and time management skills.
  • Ability to build relationships and build rapport with clients, volunteers, suppliers, and other stakeholders, while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Good computer competency; able to use Microsoft Office365, and virtual meeting platforms such as Microsoft Teams and database systems.
  • Strong ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good understanding of safe working procedures and the ability to inform new staff on those requirements.
  • Knowledge of the issues, barriers and impacts encompassing food insecurity, homelessness, and housing.
  • Ability to communicate in a language other than English is an asset.
  • Knowledge of effective coaching, mentorship and relationship building practices.
  • Able to navigate challenging conversations and sensitive topics.
  • Able to effectively interact in a diplomatic, collaborative, professional and results-oriented manner.
  • A satisfactory Criminal Records Check is a condition of employment.
