The Opportunity We are looking for a Maintenance Supervisor for our Scarborough facility. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, this position provides direction and leadership for the Maintenance Department to ensure the safe and optimal performance of all equipment and that quality output meets or exceeds both short and long term objectives.
What You'll Do
- Provide direction to ensure specific safety rules, housekeeping, pro-active accident prevention and conscious safety behaviours are adhered to and enforced if necessary
- Conduct monthly safety/crew meetings and ensure employees receive necessary training to perform their jobs in a safe manner
- Lead and control skilled labour and work crews engaged in all mechanical activities concerned with the operation of the mill
- Ability to optimize resources (manpower, equipment and materials) to ensure efficient and timely completion of work
- Able to demonstrate good organizational skills, following policies, procedures and work practices and developing improvements when necessary
- Competent in reading and understanding specifications, drawings and all other forms of related documentation and have some understanding of a CMMS system
- Command respect of his workforce, and develop excellent working relationships with all other department personnel
- Must be a good communicator. Able to give instructions in an efficient and effective way to his workforce. Communicate with other discipline supervisor’s to ensure the optimum utilization of available resources with the overall objective of job completion
- Ensure smooth production operations by determining work priorities and scheduling repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools and equipment, scheduling and assigning employees; following up on work results
- Direct maintenance operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing program, operation, and personnel policies
- Resolve maintenance problems by conferring with management, engineering, and quality control personnel
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results, projects and other duties
- Responsible for managing mechanical budget
- Perform other tasks or jobs as required
What You Bring
- Must have 5 years’ experience in Pulp and Paper or a related manufacturing environment
- Must have a minimum of 3 to 5 years supervisory experience
- Must be familiar with heavy rotating equipment in a continuous manufacturing setting
- Must be familiar with centrifugal pumps and pumping systems
- Must have previous knowledge of bearings, bearing mounting and lubrication system
- Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- Knowledge of papermaking and stock preparation equipment and processes
- Familiar with common safety practices in the industrial field, such as lockouts, confined space entry, WHMIS, etc.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Very good interpersonal skills, problem solving skills, and leadership abilities

Hiring Range : $115, 000 - $143,000 per year. A candidate’s experience and knowledge may be factored into the pay a candidate receives for this position. This posting is for an existing vacancy.
