The Appraiser, Property Claims, provides detailed, accurate appraisals and damage assessments for property claims, including residential, commercial, and farm claims. This role collaborates closely with internal claims teams, Independent Adjusters, restoration companies, and other external vendors to ensure claims are resolved efficiently, cost-effectively, and to the highest customer satisfaction standards. The Appraiser actively supports vendor management initiatives, maintains thorough reporting, participates in cost-saving initiatives, and contributes to continuous process and service improvements.

What You Will Do... Property Damage Appraisal:
- Conduct thorough remote property damage assessments, accurately evaluating the extent of damage and required repairs or replacements.
- Ensure appraisal accuracy in alignment with internal guidelines, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Utilize advanced estimating software and tools (e.g., Xactimate) to produce detailed, timely, and reliable assessments.
Vendor And Stakeholder Collaboration
- Collaborate proactively with Independent Adjusters, restoration vendors, contractors, and legal counsel to manage claims effectively.
- Maintain open, effective communication with claims adjusters, senior specialists, property claims teams, and vendor partners to streamline the appraisal and claims resolution processes.
- Foster strong, collaborative relationships with vendors, providing regular feedback and addressing issues promptly.
Cost Management And Process Efficiency
- Identify and recommend cost-effective repair methodologies, materials, and vendors, optimizing claim costs while maintaining quality standards.
- Continuously evaluate appraisal data and trends to identify opportunities for improvements, efficiencies, and claims leakage reduction.
- Support corporate initiatives aimed at process enhancement and improved claims cost management.
Escalation And Issue Management
- Manage and resolve escalated issues related to property appraisals or vendor disputes promptly and effectively.
- Provide expert technical advice and guidance to internal stakeholders on complex appraisal matters.
Reporting And Documentation
- Maintain detailed and accurate appraisal records, ensuring thorough documentation to support claims decisions and compliance.
- Regularly prepare and deliver comprehensive appraisal reports, insights, and analytics for the Senior Specialist, Property Vendor Partnerships, and broader claims leadership.
Training And Industry Expertise
- Actively participate in training initiatives, collaborating with QA Specialists and Training Leads to develop appraisal-related training programs.
- Stay informed of industry advancements, changes in restoration techniques, building codes, and materials to incorporate best practices into appraisal processes.
CAT Response Readiness
- Support and actively engage in CAT preparedness and response efforts, ensuring readiness for effective appraisal and claims management during catastrophic events.
The salary range for this role is $76,000 - $114,000. The salary for the successful candidate will be determined by various factors including but not limited to an individual’s relevant experience, knowledge, skills, along with internal equity, and market considerations.
What you will bring...
Education & Experience
- Minimum 3 years of property appraisal or claims adjusting experience, with expertise across residential, commercial, and farm claims.
- Post-secondary education or vocational training in construction management, property appraisal, or a related field; relevant industry certifications preferred.
Technical Skills & Knowledge
- In-depth knowledge of property damage appraisal methodologies, construction processes, and industry standards in restoration.
- Proficiency with claims management and appraisal software tools.
Competencies
- Strong analytical, detail-oriented, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, negotiation, and relationship management skills.
- Proven ability to manage complex appraisals, escalations, and vendor relationships professionally and effectively.
