Laboratory Technologist I - Toxicology / Trace Elements
About the role
Your Opportunity:
A natural problem-solver, you may even think of yourself as a little bit of a medical detective. Using laboratory skills, you can perform Toxicology/TDM and Trace Element analysis to help healthcare professionals make an accurate diagnosis, or to restore, maintain, or optimize health - it just may take a little longer in the real world than it does on popular crime shows. Alberta Precision Laboratories is looking for someone like you for the role of Medical Laboratory Technologist - Toxicology at the University of Alberta Hospital. You’ll use specialized techniques like mass spectrometry (GC, LC and ICP), high performance liquid chromatography, and gas chromatography to identify or rule out substances contributing to patient’s condition or determine next steps in their treatment. Your attention to detail and organization will aid in maintaining laboratory records, performing routine maintenance, and troubleshooting of various instruments, performing quality control activities, and verifying patient/quality control results. Effective time management will help you get it all done. You will shine in this role as you are comfortable working independently and as part of a team, you are reliable and flexible and work well under pressure. Your strong communication and interpersonal skills will help you to thrive in the team environment, and when you’re called upon to assist with training of new employees and students. This role offers you an opportunity to work a variety of shifts including days, evenings and weekends. The consequential vacancy process may be used to fill any resulting vacancies.
