Job Description:

In support of our growth strategy, AltaLink’s Project Delivery Group is currently looking for a Project Manager who will be responsible for the delivery coordination of substation-related capital projects. The primary focus will be to manage the design, cost, quality, schedule, and safety for multiple projects. This role will involve the project management of both customer driven projects and internally driven Capital Upgrade & Replacement projects.

This permanent or term position is based out of the Calgary office, and will report to the Manager, Substation Delivery within the Projects Department.

Responsibilities:

  • Effectively setup and manage multiple projects within a matrix organization, ranging up to $5 Million each from inception to completion, from a total annual budget of up to $60 Million;
  • With a commitment to Safety and Environment, actively manage and report on Safety and Environment;
  • Lead a team through the Siting and regulatory approval processes;
  • Act as a key contact with clients throughout project execution reporting progress in a timely and efficient manner and obtaining approval for all scope and schedule changes;
  • Manage a number of consultants and contractors throughout project execution;
  • Manage and coordinate multiple customers and changing priorities;
  • Effectively and accurately report project status, finances, and schedule for senior management;
  • Manage AltaLink's identity with clients and stakeholders affected by Substations Projects;
  • Evaluate future years project feasibility, and create a Project Proposal with a preliminary scope, estimate and schedule;
  • Manage and communicate with consultants and AltaLink project team members on project scope, objectives, accountabilities and commitments.

Requirements

  • University bachelor’s degree in engineering required;
  • Professional Engineer with the Association of Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) or qualifies for immediate registration with APEGA;
  • Minimum of four (4) years of related engineering experience;
  • 2 years' experience in a project management role in transmission/utility/or relevant EPC would be an asset;
  • Proven ability/experience in the above noted responsibilities;
  • Experience working with Substation engineering/construction would be an asset;
  • Project Management Certification would be an asset;
  • Experience in leading multi-discipline teams within a matrix organization;
  • Demonstrated leadership capability;
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interface with team members and customers to promote positive customer outcomes;
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic changing environment;
  • Capable of managing multiple competing priorities;
  • Strong team player;
  • Experience working in SAP would be an asset;
  • Proven track record of good performance and attendance.
