Position Information:

Position Overview:
Woodstock Hospital is seeking an experienced and visionary Chief of Psychiatry to lead our mental health services and drive excellence in psychiatric care. This is a senior leadership role, responsible for clinical oversight, strategic development, and quality improvement in psychiatric services. The successful candidate will be a passionate advocate for mental health, with a strong focus on patient-centred care, staff engagement, and system-level collaboration.

Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Strategy:

  • Provide strategic direction and leadership for the Department of Psychiatry.
  • Collaborate with hospital leadership to develop and implement mental health initiatives aligned with organizational goals.
  • Foster a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement in psychiatric care.

Clinical Oversight:

  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based psychiatric care across inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Provide clinical supervision and mentorship to psychiatrists and interdisciplinary mental health teams.
  • Participate in complex case reviews and provide direct clinical care as required.

Quality & Performance Improvement:

  • Lead quality assurance initiatives, ensuring compliance with professional standards, regulations, and accreditation requirements.

  • Monitor and improve clinical outcomes, patient safety, and service effectiveness.

  • Champion initiatives that address mental health equity, access, and patient satisfaction.

Human Resources & Administration:

  • Work collaboratively with the Senior Team.
  • Recruit, retain, and evaluate psychiatrists and other mental health professionals.
  • Support professional development and continuing education of staff.
  • Collaborate with medical staff office and human resources on credentialing, performance reviews, and departmental planning.
  • Represent department at Medical Advisory Committee and Medical Manpower Committee.

Collaboration & Partnerships:

  • Liaise with community mental health partners, primary care providers, and regional health networks.
  • Represent Woodstock Hospital on external committees and regional mental health initiatives.
  • Build and strengthen partnerships with academic institutions for training and research.

Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree with specialization in Psychiatry.
  • Fellowship with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) in Psychiatry.
  • Licensed (or eligible for licensure) with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO).
  • Minimum 5–7 years of clinical experience in psychiatry, with at least 2–3 years in a leadership or administrative role preferred.
  • Demonstrated excellence in clinical care, team leadership, and program development.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Commitment to patient-centered care, diversity, and ethical practice.

A new 178 bed capacity, full-service community hospital opened on August 26, 2011.
