About the role

As a Specialist, Welding and Fitting Skills Development, you will support employees in developing their professional skills to improve their performance and help them adapt to changes in their field. You will actively participate in developing and implementing training programs that contribute to the professional growth of welder-fitters. You will also support the welding and fitting superintendent in training and mentoring instructors in this trade.

More specifically, you will:

  • Serve as a trusted advisor in welding and fitting and contribute to various training and skills development initiatives.

  • Participate in developing welding and fitting training content.

  • Design learning tools that promote employee skills development.

  • Assess the skills, strengths, and areas for improvement of welder-fitters.

  • Develop, in collaboration with the welding and fitting superintendent and welding inspectors, personalized development plans to optimize the quality of work.

  • Support the application of skills in real-world work situations.

  • Monitor the progress of welder-fitters and adjust learning strategies based on their learning styles.

  • Provide guidance on learning methods (self-directed learning, digital tools, etc.).

  • Collaborate with the welding and fitting superintendent or welding and fitting trainers to identify development objectives aimed at maximizing training quality.

  • Foster motivation, self-confidence, and engagement among learners.

  • Prepare and manage the logistics and equipment required for the Welding School.

  • Maintain an inclusive and safe training environment.

  • Train instructors in the delivery of work methods and techniques.

  • Collaborate with instructors and advisors from various departments to ensure continuity and the transfer of skills in the field.

  • Stay abreast of technical and pedagogical developments.

  • Three to five years’ experience in content development and/or employee training.

  • Training and knowledge related to the trade, as well as safe work practices.

  • Proficiency in various welding processes; CWB and/or Lloyd’s certification is an asset.

  • Demonstrated ability to use teaching methods that engage and retain learners’ attention.

  • Natural inclination toward teamwork and collaboration.

  • Ability to evaluate learners objectively.

  • Strong sense of responsibility and prioritization.

  • High degree of schedule flexibility, Monday through Friday.

  • Intermediate level of English proficiency to train non-French-speaking employees.
