Job Description As Director of Sport, you will guide and grow a highly motivated team of 12 full-time specialist PE teachers, 7 full-time professional sports coaches, and a range of talented visiting coaches. Together, you’ll develop and deliver a rich, coordinated programme in concert with the Head of Physical Education.
The role requires leadership of the games programme, the development of pathways to performance sport, and health focused initiatives across the whole Stamford School family. You’ll have the opportunity to drive innovation, nurture talent, and ensure that every Stamfordian finds their passion for sport whether on the pitch, on the court, in the pool, or discovering a new activity that will stay with them for life.
The leadership of sport in this sector will require the Director of Sport to be able to establish and continue meaningful relationships with Governing bodies, local communities and global educational organisations. The capacity and drive to establish networks of benefit for Stamford will be an important factor in appointment, as will the development of revenue streams via sport.
Sound budgetary control will be key and an agile and entrepreneurial spirit is desirable.
Stamford School offers a range of scholarships and bursaries that benefit students, the wider community and the school and the Director of Sport will be fully supportive of fund-raising efforts in this domain.
Essential Criteria
- A good honours degree in a related subject and postgraduate certificate in education (QTS).
- Experience of teaching or working with GCSE and Sixth Form aged students.
- Willingness to engage with Continuing Professional Development.
- Inspire respect and credibility through the discharge of their duties and use their expertise to influence others in relation to their subject.
- Demonstrate a good knowledge and understanding of current issues relating to the personal development of young people.
- Demonstrate a sound knowledge and understanding of how to promote equalities and ensure inclusive teaching and learning practices.
- Ability to inspire, challenge, motivate and empower students as they prepare for life beyond school.
- Proficient in the use of IT with a commitment to maximise the benefits of new technologies.
- Able to build and maintain effective relationships with staff, students and parents.
- Emotional Intelligence and empathy.
- A genuine interest in outcomes for young people.
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with staff, students, parents and the wider community.
- A reflective practitioner who seeks advice and support when necessary.
- Ability to prioritise and manage time effectively, particularly in relation to balancing the demands made by teaching.
- Readiness to further own professional development through INSET.
- An ability to think and plan creatively, to solve problems and have a growth mindset.
- Committed to safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion.
Desirable Criteria
- Working with children in a primary/preparatory school setting.
